I was all for taking Greg Monroe with the 4th pick. I thought he was a top 3 pick in 2009 if he decided to leave after his freshman year.

Hindsight is always 20-20. Wes turned out to be a terrible pick, but you could make the case that 2, 4, 6, 8 and 11-14 were all busts from that draft. That's 8 of the lottery picks. Higher percentage than usual, but not unprecedented.
And that's why I think some of the Player A vs. Player B stuff already being argued re. the 2013 draft is kinda silly.
As for Monroe, if you saw him as the #4, I say kudos to you cuz I don't think that was a common opinion. I think most fans hoped that Turner or Favors would drop to us (or worse yet, we'd trade up to nab one of the two) or that it was Wes vs. Cousins.

I wanted Cousins. I know, I know. He's mental. He was also arguably the most talented player in this whole draft. How many big men in the NBA have the skills that he does? Is there even anybody? He was also 18 years old and I was in the thinking that maybe he'd mature and finally get his head right. Hard to do in SAC so we'll never know what he could have been.
Monroe would have been a reach for me. I probably wouldn't have liked the pick when it happened just like when I didn't like Wes Johnson. I was also a huge Evan Turner fan but I knew he wouldn't fall to us. Hell, I still like Turner.

I wanted Cousins too, but not to keep him long term. I thought he was the best talent available at that slot and would be someone we could easily trade down for a lower pick + an additional asset.
I was dead wrong about Evan Turner. That's the guy I really wanted and was hoping we'd trade up for. Man, has he underwhelmed. He's not an outright bust, but both him and Williams are both firmly in that "meh" category, which is pretty disappointing for former #2 picks.

Q - I also thought Evan Turner was a can't miss and would have given up assets to get him. I have to also admit that I thought Wes Johnson would be a great offensive player with limited defensive skills. He seemed like a pretty safe pick and I never imagined he would be a bust.
It's really a crapshoot in spite of what several experts would have you believe.
