The minutes game
The minutes game
Let see everyones consensus on who gets minutes and where. I have broken it down position wise expect have combined the 2/3 positions to 'wings' with 96 minutes available as most of our wing players can play both positions and it doesn't really matter offensively in Adelmans corner offensive schemes who plays 2 or who plays 3.
PG - Rubio (32), Barea (12), Shved (4)
Wings - Martin (28), Brewer (24), Budinger (24), Shved (14), Williams (6)
PF - Love (30), Williams (18)
C - Pekovic (30), Love (6), Dieng (12)
Starters - Rubio/Martin/Brewer/Love/Pekovic
2nd Unit - Barea/Shved/Budinger/Williams/Dieng
3rd Unit - Shved/Muhammad/Hummel*/Cunningham/Turiaf

Bless your little heart, Kiwi, you still think Williams is going to outplay Cunningham to get minutes behind Love. Dream on.
Re: The minutes game
Based on William's last month of play yes he deserves too. 13.1ppg / 48% fg / 41% 3fg / 89% ft. :thumb:

I have no idea how this is going to play out. I'm sure injuries will dictate some of it. If everyone is relatively heathy, Rick has some good decisions to make and a couple guys aren't going to be happy. The guys most likely to be unhappy are Barea and Shved. Cunningham is going to play, Dieng probably won't get consistent minutes, and Shved might not be part of the rotation.

In the fantasy land of everyone staying healthy, Shabazz, Dieng, Williams, and Shved probably get the short end of the stick in terms of playing time. In the real world, we will have injuries and all these guys will get a shot at meaningful minutes in the rotation. We'll see what they make of it.

Good assesment Matty. Williams is the wild card here. Where will he get his minutes? I'll predict he'll take more of Shved's at the wing and less at the 4, but about 25 total.

Re: The minutes game
I think you're going to see several guys average 20 -25 minutes. Ricky and Love will get mid 30's, and Pek should get 30 - 35. I like what Q said - guys are going to get a chance to prove their worth at some point. May the strong survive.

Re: The minutes game
Turiaf and Chris Johnson will get a few...on certain nights. Early on I think Rick will try a lot of combinations but then 20 games in some guys will see extended time on the pine. The big battles for time will be between the following
Barea and Shved at backup 1
Shved and Brewer at backup 2
Williams, Bud, and Brewer at starting and backup 3
Williams and DC at backup 4
Turiat, Dieng, and CJ at backup 5
At playoff time next year here's my prediction
PG - Rubio (36) Barea (8)
Wings - Martin (28), Brewer (24), Bud (20) Williams (20), Shved (4)
PF - Love (36) DC(12)
C - Pekovic (35), Love (4), Turiaf(9)
Starters - Rubio/Martin/Williams/Love/Pekovic
2nd Unit - Barea/Brewer/Budinger/DC/Turiaf

Re: The minutes game
I'm loving the depth of this squad. We go 3 deep in most positions.
We have quality starters at each position bar SF, but even then we have 3 solid players battling it out for the starting role in Brewer, Bud and Williams. Competition is a healthy thing and under Adelamans reign they will have to earn minutes.
Comparing our wing depth from this season to last:
2012/2013
Kirilenko, Roy (injured), Budinger, Shved and Lee. Howard and Gelabale bought in later.
2013/2014
Martin, Brewer, Budinger, Shved, Muhammad, Williams (slimmed down version) and possibly Hummel.
That in itself goes to show a great improvement in shooting, athleticism and depth we have at the wings. Last season proved you can never have enough quality wing players. I remember a stretch of three games where Gelabale was the only healthy wing on the roster. Sure we were injury decimated, but we also had a serious lack of depth at the wing.

That's not too bad Maels. One thing I will point out is that if Barea is only getting 8 minutes per night, I don't think he will be on the team come playoff time. I see JJ as a potential chemistry killer if he's not getting any run. I would fully expect he gets dealt at the deadline if he's not a major contributor.
