Josh Freeman a Viking

Post by slimcalhoun27 [enjin:6640095] »

Was just watching the Sunday Night football between the 49ers and the Texans. After the game the announcement was made by Ian Rapoport that Freeman has signed with the Vikings. What does this do for the Vikings and how can he contribute? What does this mean for Ponder and how can the Vikings get this guy to reach his potential.

One year contract so we have to expect him to take the starter role sooner than later so the team can decide how much, if any, they will be willing to pay him this offseason. It also means that they've come to the conclusion that 90% of the fan base came to after last year, Ponder is not the answer. As for what it means to this seasons team? Not much unless he has a great rest of the year and the defense suddenly remembers how to stop apposing offenses.

I really don't know much about Freeman as far as what he brings to the team physically or mentally, but the unknown is sure more exciting than more of what Ponder has delivered.

As long as we take a young qb in the draft and not commit the next four years again to him I am good with it. Better than Ponder. Dont think is the answer but best option we would have. Throw him in there and see how he does. Pryor is looking really good right now against San DIego. Kind of random but thought would throw out there.

Freeman has all the physical tools you can ask for and has had some legit success 2 year in a row and the guy is only 25. I'll temper my expectations, but damn I am sorta excited about this move. Its like getting a QB in the first round of the draft for free. Ponder's career as a backup QB looks to have just started. Maybe they put him on IR depending on that rib. Of course its the NFL and QBs get injured so by week 12 Ponder could end up starting again or some crazy thing.

This is tough. He seems talented enough to beat Ponder and Cassel out of the job but ultimately this is another piecemeal attempt to solve our franchise length quarterback problem since we lost Tarkenton. I agree with the crazysauce that our aim should still be drafting a quarterback and admitting that this is a stop gap. I still can't help thinking that the end of Peterson's prime is going to be pissed away with putting together patchwork teams.

I voted we made a bad signing, but this is because I have lost hope for ponder, but I still feel there is some sort of off chance that this lights a fire under him and he finally brings it all together. I just really don't think he has "it" and don't think he ever will.

I think our best bet would have been to hand the ball to AP all year, keeping him happy and drafting the best QB we can get in the draft.

Tank the season like Indy did and take the best QB in the draft.

I don't really consider handing the ball off to AP tanking. I think with what we have at QB it is actually our best option lol. No need to tank, but I think AP will only carry us so far this year which would lead to a early to mid first round pick and one of the 3-4 QB's should be there that can start right away.

I really dont feel our Offense is the issue. Ponder did help us put 30 points a game prior to the injury....thats a nice amount. Its the defensive group that has struggled. We need a Middle Linebacker and healthy CB's. Also, our front 4 is either too old or to young. They need to step it up if the Vikings have a chance to reach the playoffs. And right now, they still can....its wide open in all conferences besides the west.

Wait what? You mean the Bears game? The one that included a 108 yd kick off return and a 61 yd fumble return for tds? That leaves us with 16 points, and that is if you don't count the terrible pick 6 that was all on him against him.
