I like what i saw with the rubio-jj combo used tonight in the 2nd half.
Thats a combination i would like adelman to used more often. I remember rubio and barea coming off the bench together in rubio's rookie season and they always gave the wolves a spark when they got in. They have good chemistry and play off each other well.
JJ plays well off the ball as he can look for his shot more. He shoots better too when he gets set up and has his feet set. Kidd+jj was the starting guards of the mavs in that finals series. It limits barea's ball dominance with rubio in there running the offense and jj can be the secondary ball handler o help rubio out.
Now, instead of shved coming in for martin at the 3min mark in the 1st, have jj come in instead. Play rubio and jj together and have shved come in for rubio. We can limit martin's minutes then with jj being his backup instead of shved. If we are looking to maximize barea, a 3 guard rotation of rubio-martin-barea would be good. have shved and mbah a noute play spot minutes based on matchups or when barea is having one of his down games.

Re: Rubio-barea playing together
World - I agree with you. I've mentioned ed this in posts very early this season. And like you, I recall Rubio and JJ playing well together in Ricky's rookie season. As a slight caveat to your thinking, I'd like to see Martin integrated into our second unit as part of giving JJ time with Ricky as part of the first unit. How about a second unit of Shved, Martin, Budinger or Shbazz, Dante and Turiaf?
Re: Rubio-barea playing together
Lip, i will be down with that as well. I just dont think adelman will make martin a bench player, not this year anyway. But he can work it out with giving rubio+jj more court time together. Maybe sub out martin out earlier in the 1st and 3rd. I just hope he gave them more time together as both rubio and barea play better when they are in the game together.
The shved/martin/bud/dante/turiaf bech looks promising but im not sure adelman will go with that, not with barea still a wolf.

Re: Rubio-barea playing together
World -- I don't see Adelman taking Martin out of the starting lineup. But I can see him sitting Martin before any of the other starters and then giving him an extended run with the second unit. We've seen Adelman sit Martin and Ricky in 4th quarters, so I can see him shifting Martin's role. Do I think it will happen? No. But it's possible and I sure hope it happens.

Lip, were in total ageement that its something not likely to happen, but we sure hope adelman went with it from hereon out.
By the way lip, i know your the one to ask this, but whats your take on gobert and his enormous wingspan and 9'7 standing reach? He was fun to watch tonight. I like dieng but i realize we could have drafted gobert if flip didnt trade away the 26th pick to get rid of malcom lee and save cash!
Re: Rubio-barea playing together
Welp... We're on two completely different spectrum's here.
In theory it sounds nice... The problem is, JJ often has this thing he can't shake... Hogging the ball. Which renders what seems like it could be a nice pairing useless because you have ricky without the ball and everyone and ricky's grandma knows he can't shoot so it all goes down hill quickly. JJ can't be a SG for various reasons, size, the fact he needs to have the ball to be his most effective (let's face it he's not a stand there and pick a spot and take a shot type of guy)
He's a dribble with the ball endlessly and shoot the ball type of guy and as we know ricky needs the ball in his hands to be effective.

Re: Rubio-barea playing together
Yosi, barea plays well off the ball and as the secondary ball handler. He played that role on the mavs and has sucess playing alongside rubio Intheir stints together. Im sure there are footage of this that you can look into.
Barea becomes a problem when he is the primary ball handler and teamates are reduced to watching him dribble and hoping he would pass to them. If you watched tonight, barea maade some nice cuts and off ball movemeent that resulted in rubio assists. He also shoots better form downtown with his feet set or when hes set up. And he knows how to fill in the lanes and finish in fastbreak situations.
Rubio benefits from having another ball handler and a shot creator to play alongside with.
