JJ for Miller???

Post by mjs34 »

Saw that Miller isn't happy with Shaw in Denver. I wonder if that wouldn't be an option for this team. Miller is a little long in the tooth, but seems to be a savy player that might help us out. I do hesitate to get even less athletic than we already are. They make about the same amount of money.

I like Miller but he can't shoot, so we would have 4 guys on our bench not shoot and that would not be good for spacing reasons

Miller would be an incredible "get" for this team.

He might not be known for shooting... but he knows how to play and where/when to get shots. And he's a fabulous passer.

Fun fact: Miller actually has a 50 point game. I was shocked when I heard that. 52 points in 2010.

I pretty much agree with Kek on this.

I've always liked Miller, but he is pretty old now i don't think that he fits what we need. JJ is more of an outside shooter with a decent eFG%. Miller's eFG% is about the same, but he's not the outside threat and less likely to be an X factor in a game.

I honestly think our backup PG should be someone that can walk it up the court and doesn't turn it over and can find someone open for a shot about 15 seconds into the shot clock. If we had Miller/Bud/Hummel,Cunningham, Turiaf we should be able to hold leads and run time off the clock.

Andre Miller suspended for two days for arguing with Brian Shaw.

Come home Professor. Come home.

Miller is ancient. There's no way I give up someone like JJ for him. JJ is only 29 and Miller is 37. If you want to trade a Shved and AJ Price for him then fine, but there's no way I give up our best offensive threat off the bench for a 37 year old who is putting up worse numbers in the same amount of minutes (JJ 8/4, Andre 6/3). A Miller/JJ backcourt works off the bench because JJ is better off the ball and Miller is thick enough (but probably not quick enough) to guard a lot of 2's. We just can't afford to lose more shooting and JJ stretches the floor while Miller doesn't. Our second unit would have 1 shooter and it would be easy to guard him because he will probably be a spot up guy until he gets his legs under him. We have to stop taking steps back from 3 point shooting because we are the 6th worst team in the league in terms of % and yet we take the 9th most attempts.

Rubio gets all sorts of credit on this forum for his savvy running of an offense. But Miller is being disparaged a bit, despite his ability to do many of the same things (and post up) as good as almost any PG in NBA history. Is he long in the tooth... sure. Is he bad on defense... yep. But Barea is largely worthless on d, too.

Barea's decision-making is not in the same stratosphere as Miller's.

For the role available on this Wolves team, I take a 37-year-old Andre Miller over Barea at any age every time. He's a crafty guy who I don't think has fallen off the cliff yet.

[Note: That does little to help with my longtime complaint about the Wolves... nobody who can create off the bounce. But that ship may have already sailed. And if so... I take the steady, reliable Andre Miller and go a different route.]
