Historical Perspective: Was Kahn the worst GM in modern NBA history?
Get ready. Abe's going ranting this morning...
89 - 223 (28.5%)
- Hired Kurt Rambis. No coach in NBA history did as poorly as Kurt Rambis over a full two-year stretch. 32 - 132.
- Jonny Flynn. We know the tale. "Flynn can play with Rubio." And we know Curry was sitting there.
- Picked up chronic underachiever Darko. Later decided to build offense around Darko "manna from heaven." At the same time...
- ... didn't intervene when Rambis was playing Darko AND Ryan Hollins ahead of Kevin Love.
- Wes Johnson. Never averaged more than 16 ppg at any level... even high school. One good college season. Drafted #4. Gave up a #1 pick in loaded draft to dump him. woe.
- Kevin Love extension. 25/13 guy is begging to play for the worst organization in L... turns him down. Give him an out in his contract.
You know what... fuck this. We don't need to rehash everything. We all know what's happened.
Back to my original premise... just how bad was the ear-wax-eating David Kahn? Did trading for Rubio and hiring Adelman get him off the list for worst GMs of all time?
Which names are out there in this battle?

He certainly is the most criticized gm of all time thats for sure. Hes had his faults for sure but theres been gms who have made much worse draft picks then khan. He luck with injuries made him seem worse then he was too. He also isnt even the worst gm this team has had. Hell he might prove to be better then who we have now

Rambis and wes yes we really bad. Rambis might end up being the next lakers coach and wes plays major minutes for the lakers. That makes mitch look a hell a lot worse then khan
Flynn was bad. Probably worse that we didnt trade him for the pick that turned out to be paul george
Darko was bad but theres been worse who have been paid more
The love extension doesnt really look so bad now. Really it just delayed it another year. With the lakers seemingly out of the picture and really no other situation he could go better then the wolves I dont see where else he would go anyway

alex...
Do you think Mitch is looking worse than Kahn? Really?
Consider...
The Lakers have virtually the same record as the Wolves do. Despite playing w/o Bryant... and despite starting Wes Johnson.
I'm not ripping Kahn as much for drafting Johnson, although I disagreed with it. He gave up a #1 pick to get rid of him. That's insane.

What about every Wolves GM? Outside of KG carrying this team for a few years we are a sad franchise. Minnesota builds character that is for sure. Go Wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It might have been a more interesting poll if you just took all of the timberwolves GMs and made a vote...
Re: Historical Perspective: Was Kahn the worst GM in modern NBA history?
I think the icing on the cake was the fact that Kahn had to trade away a future 1st just to unload Wes Johnson's contract. That move pretty much summed up Kahn's tenture as Wolves GM.
