Derrick Williams and Shabazz Muhammad. Can they be packaged for a middling player in return that at first glance, seems inferior... but actually might help the team win more games...?
As pointed out elsewhere... Marcus Thornton? (but even that might be unattainable despite him having no real role there in the near future.)
Plus, they have Jason Thompson, but he seems to be in the proverbial doghouse. Could they maybe see something in Williams? You never know with that organization. It's pretty fucked up.
I've always like Jason Thompson. Can play both PF / C. Can score, rebound and block shots! I wonder if Sacramento would trade him straight up for D Will? Maybe we could include Shved for Fredette as well. Fredette could play the much needed 'Hoiberg' role off the bench.
I might be in the minority, but I'd like to see us offer Barea around. He looks awful this year. Looks out of shape and seems to have lost his quickess which in turn has lost his ability to get to the hole and create for himself. He certainly isn't a playmaker and his +/- for the season would be the worst out of anyone on this roster. He comes in and we lose our lead. Sure he is a hot and cold player, but hes been cold all season and is costing this team.

I was in the minority that wanted Barea traded and not Ridnour. I actually would have loved Ridnour leading the second unit. He's perfect for it. So yes, if we could find the right offer for D-Will, Barea or Shved, I'm all in.
What would it take to get Steve Blake? Think he'd be a great, sneaky pickup. He's a FA after this season too. Knows how to actually run an offense. Barea's just a damn mad man.
Other than admitting you've never liked him, why do you say Shabazz is a deadbeat? He's 8 games into his career and has been called the hardest worker on the team. Adelman doesn't play rookies early unless forced to (Dieng). Give the guy some time.
Maybe I was a bit unclear. I just don't think Shabazz is good enough to break into the rotation. I don't think he ever will. And, Williams' best position is the same as the team's best player. So, he's a bit of dead weight too.
But, I think both still offer SOME value for somebody else to make trade talk at least a possibility.

See... that madman quality is what I like about Barea. Although "like" might be the wrong term.
It's that quality, however, that CAN be good on a team. Sometimes.

I love Barea when he's on... but I absolutely hate him when he's off. It's almost a guaranteed turnover or missed shot. It's hit or miss with him. I'd rather have Steve Blake or some other floor general leading the second unit if possible, though it may not be.
CAN be great for a team. It was great for the Mavs. It's been great for the Wolves at times. With this starting five, though, we don't need someone to play hero ball off the bench. We need someone who won't lose the lead by the time the first unit comes back on the floor. I'll take consistently average or close to it over hot/cold all day.
I like Barea's value based on what he brings to the court and his modest contract. However, I wouldn't consider him untradeable by any stretch. I agree with others who have speculated that Williams, Shabazz and Shved may have enough value to get us the sort of quality back-up wing we need. We also have some foreign assets that might have some value to some rebuilding teams.

I agree 100% Abe. When we make the playoffs, Barea will show his value. He can dominate at the most unexpected times. I almost find it unfortunate that he has to be in a regular rotation. He is chaos. That is what he is best at IMHO.
