Hey, The Wolves become a very hard to beat

Post by Eitan »

Our offense looks great this year.

We are very smart team that can score a lot of points in little time.

I must say that, surprisingly, our defense is not bad as I thought it would be at the beginning of the season.

I`ve watched tonight game against the Clippers and I had the feeling for the entire game that we can win the game. It seems that our players never give up ,although it was a Back to Back game - away from home (... Too many minutes for the staters).

We lost three games this season. Two out of our three losses this season were at the last seconds.

It looks like the Wolves are starting to get the confidence needed for a winning team - A winning culture (that will give us some more W).

Any thoughts?

A winning culture is a result of, not a cause of, three things: Talent, health, and coaching. We have great talent in the starting lineup; they have stayed healthy (which in turn has allowed them to build better chemistry with each passing game); and we have a great coach. That's the formula for a winning culture.

I would add one other item, q...leaders who refuse to lose. It was encouraging to watch Love, Rubio and Barea exhorting their teammates on last night. All three had tired legs and could have accepted a loss and a 1-1 road trip last night. But this team is grittier than that and fought until the end. This team is something special, and I hope they stay healthy enough to show us what they can do.

Good thoughts, eitan. I think we all knew that this offense had the potential to be very good, but the defense has been a pleasant surprise to me also. I think tired legs were more of a factor on defense last night than offense. Corey and Ricky were a step slower than Sunday night with their disruptive, ball-stealing defense.

Surprisingly, Kevin Martin had a nice defensive game last night. Adelman made a good decision at the start of the game, and put Martin on the inept Jared Dudley and put Brewer on Reddick. Brewer frustrated and shut down Reddick, and Martin allowed Dudley only one shot. Even better, I observed that as the game progressed, Martin realized that Dudley was not a threat, and sagged off of him. This allowed Kevin to get his hands on a couple balls and slow down the Clippers' offense. Nice to see!

the individuals that lost this game were the backups. How do our guards post such absolutely horrible numbers on second team in a tight game? Didnt some of these guys show some rays of promise last year?

I agree that we have some fiery competitors on the squad, including the guys you mentioned. I would also add Brewer to that list. But at the end of the day, Barea's competitive personality didn't help him make any shots last night. Give me a cool-headed sniper that can knock down 3's at a 40%+ rate and I'd be much happier than a guy with a fiery personality that kamikazes his way to missed shots and turnovers. Both Brewer and Barea have this tendency at times. I love the energy, but the results aren't always there.....

Any discussion of "what constitutes a winning culture" should start with leadership. That is the most critical aspect IMHO.

Good points. q. You just described Kevin Martin, who nobody would describe as a fiery competitor or verbal leader, but he certainly has been valuable this year.

Brewer has an interesting personality. It's amazing how quickly he adjusts from the loose, smiling Corey to the remarkably intense Corey...happens in the blink of an eye.
