Final roster spot

Post by KiwiMatt »

To me it has to be Hummel.

"Wolves rookie forward Robbie Hummel was on fire from the 3-point line after practice. With the assistant coaches charting his makes and misses, Hummel made his first 15 3-pointers and, during that particular 5 sets of 10 round on the perimeter, hit 42-of-50 3-point attempts. He was 10-of-10 from both corners." - from Rubeschat.

It sounds that all four are still in the running and the Marcus Teague rumour has thrown a spanner in the works.

But to me Hummel fills two holes - he's an excellent 3pt shooter and he can fill in for Bud while he's out.

I also looks like Chris Johnson will be waived which will open up another roster spot where I can see Brown or Price being included as 3rd PG.

I saw the Teague rumor's as well. I wonder who would be traded to get him if we are actually going for him. It could change up who ends up staying a lot.

Teague rumor can be put to rest. That was one of the players KAHN was interested in. Flip has no interest in Teague. If Flip wanted Teague, he already got a bigger version of him with Lorenzo Brown.

I also want Hummel to make the team. Thin if CJ gets waived that spot will go to Brown or Jeffers, likely Jeffers for his defensive prowess.

I would like to see a trade that moves CJ and Shved and brings back a playable wing. Then we could keep Jeffers, Hummel, and Brown.

I'm not ready to give up on Shved yet. Well, okay I'll re-phrase that. I was ready to throw him in a package with our No. 9 pick to trade up and get Oladipo, but that's because I know Dipo is going to be good as hell and his defense is suffocating. There's nobody on the market that we could ship Shved out for that would be worth it in my opinion. You have any names that you think would be available?

No idea. I am just not excited to see Shved log minutes at SG. I would rather see Wayne Ellington playing SG on this team then him.

Shved is our 2nd SG and our 3rd PG. Just remember guys this is only his second year in the NBA.

I still think he will blossom and the only thing that is missing is consistency on his shooting. He has the size and skill to play in the NBA, just needs to get his shot falling.

But in terms of the final roster spot/s.

I keep Hummel and Jeffers and waive Chris Johnson. Hummel fills the void left by Bud, and Jeffers give us perimeter defense, something we are sorely lacking. Both shouldn't see the floor (much), but if they do I have more faith in the both of them than I did in Mikael Gelabale!

You can never have enough wings! Last season proved that.

I like Chris Johnson. And we are short on players with both length and athleticism. Chris Johnson is one of only three on the roster who are both long and athletic -- the others are Deing and Williams. On the other hand, we are short on defensive players at the wing positions and losing Budinger leaves us thin in the three-point shooting department. So it's a tough call.

At this point I think I'd reluctantly buy out CJ and keep Hummel and Lorenzo Brown on the roster. I agree that losing Budinger for an extended period means that Hummel should be one of the two we keep. I'd keep Brown over Jeffers for three reasons. First, Brown has youth and upside that Jeffers doesn't have. Second, Brown can play both SG and PG, providing versatility that Jeffers doesn't provide. Finally, I think Jeffers' Summer League and limited preseason performances are misleading. He hasn't faced true NBA caliber players at the top of their games. Jeffers is 28 years old and still hasn't advanced beyond the D-League. That tells me he's a D-League talent, period. The rookies and D-League caliber talent he faced in Summer League made Jeffers look much better than he would actually be in a regular NBA season. Preseason play can be similarly misleading.

I think Flip did a nice job getting Brown late in the second round. I'd like to see that pick stick around and eventually bear some fruit. And I think Hummel will be solid as long as he stays healthy.

Yey another person giving up on a guy too early. Ellington...doesn't suck thats about the highest praise I can give the guy and I the biggest fan of his on this board. Shved has more talent than Wayne no doubt and at least he can actually play 3 positions. Wayne could barely play one.

Lip while I don't disagree with you I'll mention that Jeffers has played 31 games int he NBA and played a decent chunk of games for Washington and was pretty productive as well. Should we keep him around? I like him, but I like all the guys we have fighting for those last roster spots. Its unlikely that whoever sticks is going to be a major factor for this team this year so I don't know how much it really matters so I think I might rather go with a young guy. Of course if Brown signs a euro contract and goes over there for a year and we can hold onto his rights and he can get some more experience that would be handy too, but its going to be interesting to see what happens. Early in the preseason Adelman really praise Brown's D so that I thought was significant. Jeffers has been getting a decent chunk of minutes so you would think he has some sort of upper hand in the race for a spot. Jeffers seems like a guy that woudl push people in practice but you could probably say that about some of the other guys too.

Actually the one guy I could care less about is AJ Price. He isn't that good and there are probably 5 guys that aren't signed that are better or just as good as he is. If we needed a 3rd PG then he would be fine, but really we don't need one that bad. We have Rubio, JJ and Shved can player there too. We could keep Brown as a guy that can play a couple spots if they wanted a 3rd PG.
