Small Forward Options

Post by Camden [enjin:6601484] »

We need a reliable starter at SF. It looks like Brewer will start there most games if we can't find a viable starter. There's not too many options out there, though. Turner's available we think, but would Flip make a move for him? Don't really know. The Wizards just traded for Gortat and I think that signifies that they're moving all in this season for a playoff push, and I'm pretty sure they'll make it barring ridiculous injuries. So that would make it seem that Trevor Ariza isn't on the block.

I've brought up Shawn Marion before, but as someone said already, the Mavs may believe they can compete for a playoff spot so they won't trade him until it becomes clear that they don't have the horses to make the playoffs.

What other options are out there? Would Gerald Wallace be available? Very possible since Boston is in a sort of rebuild mode and a new coach. There's also the news that Celtics coaches apparently don't like how Wallace gets on his teammates' asses when they do something wrong.

"I'm getting fussed at by the coaches every time," Wallace told the Boston Herald. "They're trying to tell me to relax and ease up. But the main thing is I want the guys to compete. If we lose all 82 games, but we lose them going down fighting and competing hard, I can live with that. I can't live with losing and we didn't compete, we didn't give our best effort and we just gave the game away. I don't want that for these guys and this team." -- http://tracking.si.com/2013/10/23/gerald-wallace-says-celtics-coaches-dont-like-criticism/

Crash would be pretty nice for this team as a starter honestly. He's a big, physical SF that can guard all the SFs in the league, good on fastbreaks as we saw already this pre-season too. Not a good shooter by any means. The guy wants to win and has that aggressive hard-ass nature about him that I personally love. Takes no shit and we could use that on this Wolves team. His contract is ridiculous, though. He makes $10M this year and two years after. That could be the reason why Boston can't trade him.

I'm running out of options that make sense. I guess we're just gonna have to roll with what we have unless we hear otherwise.

If we wait until December we could offer up Bud and Brewer for him. That way they could move a guy easier with the smaller contract. It should keep us under the tax as well.

Jeff Green's an even better option as well, but I really doubt Boston would move him. Sigh...

Who would be our backup wings? Wouldn't want to trade Bud anyway, honestly. I really like what he brings to the team when healthy -- key words "when healthy".

Keep in mind that some within the Wolves organization think that D-Will may be able to fill that spot. If they viewed his ceiling as being a back up, they would not have picked up his contract for the following year. As long as he is on the team, we are not going to trade for a starting SF.

Flip believes in D-Will, but Adelman doesn't. We also saw how he played with the starting unit the other night and it wasn't pretty. Obviously we can't judge all things from exhibition games, but it wasn't what I was hoping for and I'd think most people would agree. Picking up his option was pretty much a must. Either he plays up to potential and becomes our guy or we have this year and next to trade him for something. Doesn't really mean that we won't trade for a starting SF, however.

Good analysis, Cam. I agree that it looks like the Wizards won't deal Ariza. I'd like Wallace, but his salary and injury history trouble me. Jeff Green would be a great acquisition. Since Boston appears to be in full rebuild mode, I would think that they might deal Green. But I suspect we don't have the sort of assets needed to get him. Would Derrick, Shved and CJ be enough? I doubt it.

Probably not. Neither D-Will or Shved seem to have necessarily good trade value right now. D-Will, 22-year old former No. 2 overall pick tweener with only two years left on his contract and hasn't done much of anything. Shveddy, 24-year old second year player who absolutely slammed into the rookie wall last year and still has plenty of kinks to work out. You and most on the board already know that about our guys. It's just what NBA GMs think about them as well (I would think) and that's not necessarily good.

If D-Will, Shved and CJ could get us Green, I would do backflips. I really do wonder what it would take to get him because honestly, Jeff Green is basically what we want D-Will to be, but he just isn't.

What does Bud bring to the team? He is a decent 3pt shooter......

Good athlete, perfect for this offense, smart basketball player, underrated passing ability... His defense isn't as bad as it's made out to be, imo. Only thing to really dislike about Bud is how he hasn't been able to stay healthy for us.

Dream trade would be to acquire Klay Thompson for D-Will and throw-ins. Run a three guard lineup. Shoot teams out of the building every night. How filthy would that be? Lol sorry guys, I have a man crush on Thompson. He would be amazing on this team.
