Wolves season preview by Simmons/Rose

Post by longstrangetrip [enjin:6600564] »

Just watched it on youtube and wish I was savvy enough to post it here. Maybe someone can help me out.

As insufferable as Simmons (and Rose) are, it is kind of entertaining and worth a watch. Very funny at times. Nothing new here from perennial Wolves-hater Bill Simmons. No playoffs again, Love will be traded, it's cold in Minnesota, overpaid for Brewer and Martin, terrible draft (should have kept Burke). The only positives are resigning Pek and getting rid of Kahn. I'm more optimistic than this almost totally negative take, but I have to admit it's fairly well thought out. Some on this board have made some of the same comments, but in a less snarky manner. Somehow when Simmons makes them with that sneer on his face, it really pisses me off.

I hate it that Simmons has been right about the Wolves the past few years...maybe this is the year we shut him up.

Simmons is a jackass and I can't stand the guy. It goes further than his Wolves hate, but I'll keep it on topic. Think it's extra funny that Simmons thought we should have kept Burke considering he continues to hate on Sota for Kahn's love of point guards. We had Rubio, Barea, Ridnour and Shved pre-draft, yet he wanted us to keep Burke? Right...

Simmons is the guy that always stirs the Kevin Love trade pot and he's always thrown the Bulls into the mix. Thing is, in all of his pieces regarding that trade, he has Minnesota taking back Boozer. Guess how realistic that prediction is? Not very. Also, Chicago wouldn't give up Butler, especially when they might be losing Deng this next off-season. Just more thoughts from Simmons that are sloppy.

Simmons has only been right about the Wolves the last couple of seasons due to injuries, not lack of talent that Simmons would have you believe. This will likely be the year his smug ass will have to say how wrong he was about the Timberwolves even though he'll hate to admit it. His Love trade theory, however, will linger as long as Love doesn't have that new contract.

They forgot to mention Burke's injury. And harping on us overpaying is a bit ridiculous especially when at most we overpaid Martin by a mil/per. We need to overpay, it is Minnesota. Even though he stirs the pot about Love. I would not be unhappy if that was the trade we ended up with. The Shabazz stuff is too easy. It is the old story, respect is earned. And hopefully they remember what a d-bad Simmons was in his appraisal of this team.

Butler, Mirotic, Boozer and those two draft picks still isn't equal value for the best PF in the game who just turned 25. Boozer's on the back-9 while making $15M a year. Guess he could be an expiring contract for us. Yeeee...? Like I said, Chi-Town isn't trading Butler, but let's say they would. I love the guy and he'd fill our SF position brilliantly. Mirotic is a stretch four. At best, he still won't ever be a Kevin Love. He projects to be a Ryan Anderson, which is nice but big whoop for this franchise. Bulls draft pick would be a low-first. That's a potential bench player maybe. The Bobcats pick won't be as high as everyone seems to think. Kemba, MKG, Big Al and Zeller doesn't spell a terrible team to me. Doubt they end up top-5 pre-lottery actually. Worse teams: 76ers, Suns, Bucks, Kings and Jazz.

It's not nearly a good enough package for Kevin Love. If we traded him, we'd absolutely have to receive a budding STAR. Though, I don't think Love even leaves nor does he want to leave. That's my opinion.

I supposed I should have said I wouldn't be thrilled with it either. But reality is that if Love does go, 2 draft picks and some solid young talent is about as good as we will do. I hope you are right and he wants to stay, but I haven't seen anything to convince me that he wants to.

I've been reading Simmons for 10 years now. He's a pretty good and funny writer, but since he's been on TV the last couple years he's been beating the ESPN drum more and more about moving all the goood mid market players to bigger and/or warmer markets, just like they want him to say. So tha'ts where the trade proposal comes in, dump the expiring contract on a team like the Wolves for Love to move to a bigger market.

To recap, wolves overpaid for everyone, love is great but needs to be traded, its cold in Minnesota, should of kept Burke to be our third string pg, like the dieng pick but he is probably 35 so don't like the pick anymore, Derrick Williams drafted in the wrong situation (even though I agree), shabazz is garbage and horney, will miss the playoffs, and the bucks and Mavs still have not been named on the list

A report from ESPN on the Timberwolves isn't even worth watching/reading. They follow three teams - LA Lakers, Miami Heat and NY Knick. All the rest are 'irrelevant small market teams'.

Keeping Burke made no sense and even if we did they would have bashed Flip for taking 'another PG'. It seems the TWolves 'are damned if they do, damned if the don't'.

Let's do the talking on the court! Go Wolves

Simmons contradicts himself:

First he says the Wolves should have taken BPA in Burkes and kept him even though we had four PGs signed, then later on he questions why we drafted BPA in Derrick Williams when we already have Love.

He also says Martin at 7 mil was too much and acts like Jamal Crawford for 6 mil is a good deal. I know I'd prefer Martin to Crawford even for a million more.

Good catches, kiwi! Sometimes I wish Jalen Rose would do something other then agree with everything Simmons said. I find their team previews to be entertaining, but they would be better if Rose would call him on some of his absurd statements.
