Monster --

You are correct that we can't maintain our rights to Hummel or Bown unless they are kept on our roster or sign with a European team.

As for Hamilton, I'm not interested. He doesn't help our defense and at age 35 with recent injuries, there isn't much left in his tank.

Lip & Monster - Actually, we do maintain the rights to Hummel and Brown since they were our draft picks. Assuming we don't sign them, they will be free to sign with any other non-NBA team, but the Wolves will still hold their NBA-rights.

Maybe the team will "recommend" they sign with the Wolves NBDL team? I think this conversation began with some media reference. What is unclear is whether that media person was talking out of his butt-crack, or whether he had inside info suggesting those two might sign with the NBDL team...

I think what you are referring to is "if those two sign with the NBDL team, the Wolves cannot simply call them up since they are not part of the 15-man roster". They could, however, make room on their roster and then sign one or both to a contract any time during the season.

I don't have a problem with Hamilton. If we could get a solid 20 minutes a week out of him and he could provide some guidance for the other wings I would be for it.

Well put Tim I admit to misstating about the rights. I was just making the point the team can't directly assign them to a team to keep their rights. Yep if they sign with another non-NBA team (I'd prefer Europe, better competition, contracts and less likely to get scooped up by another team) we won't lose them, but we don't get to just decide to have that NBDL team sign them since we share it with 4 OTHER NBA TEAMS!!!!!!

"Hey guys we want to keep these guys around but not on our roster do you mind if we stash them here?" LOLOLOL

Sorry I can't help it. Its funny how these guys don't really do much research into some fairly simple concepts.

Not crazy about the idea of Hamilton, but wouldn't be upset if they bring him in. As long as he leaves the beard/headband/goggles combination behind. Might be the ugliest thing I've ever seen in sports.

Tim -- thanks for clarifying things on the NBDL. I mistakenly thought that signing with an NBA team would have the same impact as signing with anoher NBA team. Good news that we can keep the rights to Brown and Hummel if they sign with our NBDL team. But I can see one or both signing with another NBA team. And I still see Brown as better fit than Jeffers. I still say no on Hamilton. I'm intrigued by the thought of trading for Turner.

Hamilton will turn 36 during the season. Last season he shot only 42.9% from the field and only 30.8% from the three-point line. He played in only 50 games last season and only 28 games the previous season. He can't stay healthy, and his skills have eroded substantially even before his 36th birthday. Even at his best, he was never a good defender and he can't defend at all now. The last thing the Wolves need now is another defensively challenged wing. There's a reason he remains unsigned well into the preseason and just two weeks before the regular season begins.

You sold me. No Hamilton. We need some that can come in and defend and bring energy to practice.

As a 14th/15th man on the team, this player won't see the floor most nights anyway. I definitely wouldn't be against having Rip on the team even if it was just for his winning attitude and leadership/mentor for Shabazz and D-Will. Have to think he'd also be good for Rubio and Love when we make the playoffs since neither have been there before. I'd rather have Rip instead of Price or CJ probably too. That's for sure.

Would he do that? It is not easy from going from a starter to a bench guy. Would he bring intensity in practice? I think I would rather have a journey men worker on the team to push Shabazz and D-Will. Why not a player like Sam Young that has been around some winning teams like the Pacers and Griz.
