I'm not expecting Brewer to be a good 3-point shooter but if he can hit at an average rate from the corners and keep defenses honest that's gravy.
It's unfair to think Brewer can't get better at a niche shot later in his career. 3 offseasons ago there was probably a post similar to this about Luke Ridnour after his breakout good mid-range shooting year in Milwaukee being a flash in the pan but those rates stayed pretty consistently above league average.
I hear you Mark. And let's not forget, he didn't have the benefit of playing with a pass first point guard last year. He will probably get more open looks because of Ricky.
Markkbu, Brewer has his strengths and I for one wants to see him focus on those. If brewer can hit that corner 3, then that would be a bonus for the team. But its not something I expect from him to do. If he is open from the corner then he has to take that shot no doubt. But i see more use and contribution from brewer if he plays to his strength rather than spotting up around the corner in the offense all game looking to throw it up when we have a lot of offensive fire power on the team.
The league average is 36% on 3 pointers. All 3 pointers... including halfcourt heaves and those from 23'9" and beyond.
With percentages being consistently higher in the corners (considered the "best" shot in basketball by some), that means that a significant number players are shooting better than 36%.
And, once again, Brewer is actually below average compared to his peers.
Personally I think Abe is spot on here. Brewer sucks at shooting that hasn't changed. Maybe he is good at shooting corner 3's but making them? Not really. LOL I hope Flip didn't actually think he was getting a 3 point threat in Brewer because there isn't much evidence to support that. Fortunately thats not why I think Brewer is a worthwhile NBA player.
