Hummel deserves that roster spot if they give it to anyone. If it's not Hummel, I'd like to see Lorenzo Brown sent to our new DLeague affiliate and Brandon Paul get the spot. I love the guy's game and intensity on D.

Just finished watching today's game and Shabazz had his struggles, but he did hit a momentum killing 3 towards the end. That was good to see. All in all, he disappointed me today. CJ, Dieng, Paul and McCamey played well though.

Dieng was very productive with his minutes. If I had to give someone the top grade today, it'd be him.

I just don't see the Wolves giving that 15th spot to a rookie/unproven player. If they give it to anyone, it will be a vet you can contribute in a pinch.

Camden -- I don't think we can send Brown to our D-League affiliate without signing him and giving him the 15th roster spot. Based on what we've seen so far, I agree that Hummel deserves the 15th roster spot. And I think he could actually help the team this year. Otherwise, I'd sign Paul as our 15th player because of his upside, which I consider very high.

Tim -- I think Hummel could give us the best of both worlds -- a young guy with upside, but also a guy who can contribute right away. What do you think?

Lip, you cant have too many 3 point shooters. I think it would be a great story if he made the team.

I loved Robbie Hummel in college, and was quite disappointed when the he injured himself against the Gophers. He was a pretty intelligent defender, and it would be a great success story for him to be injured so much, but come back and conquer. Plus the irony of having him on the team in the state that injured him is pretty amusing, haha.

I agree, Cool. I'll add that Hummel is a more complete player than many give him credit for. He's a good rebounder decent ball-handler for his size and very smart player. Before he hurt his knee he was a terrific athlete with excellent hops. He seems To have regained a lot of what he lost. Most of all, I agree it would be a great story. Robbie is the kind of guy you love to root for in sports.

Yep, Hummel is one of the good guys. Normally I tend to dislike a guy who beats up on my beloved Gophers but I never felt that way about Robbie. I thought he was done when we drafted him last year, but liked the pick anyway. Doesn't quite have the explosiveness he used to have, but he makes up for it with his basketball smarts. He just instinctively knows where to be at all times, and this makes him an above average defender...at least in summer league. He must be the front runner right now for the last spot on the roster, but I'm guessing Flip will continue to be on the lookout for a pure guard.

No one on the summer league roster is getting me too excited so far. Hummel has been very solid, but defensively I'm not sure he can keep up with NBA caliber wings. But nowadays if you can hit that corner 3 consistently and otherwise play smart ball, there is a spot for you, so perhaps he'll make the squad.

But everyone else has either been kind of meh or just plain bad. That doesn't mean I've written off everyone (OK, well I've written off Shabazz since the day we drafted him, but other than him....), I just don't think there is anyone that has screamed out "NBA rotation player" yet. I think Dieng can eventually get there, but he clearly needs more work on his body and his balance.

The bottom line is that guys like Shabazz and Dieng are going to have a hell of a time cracking the rotation in the beginning. Once the injuries start to happen - and they WILL happen - then they will get some minutes. But we better hope it's only temporary.
