Early Season evaluation: Anthony Bennett
Re: Early Season evaluation: Anthony Bennett
Bennet may be good one day, but i still don't get how someone with that body cannot get better position. He should be bulling guys over. It defies logic.

I agree Bennett needs to be given more minutes before anybody draws any firm conclusions on him.
But I'm not as convinced that Flip's offense explains his mediocre impact. Everybody is hurt because of the Ricky injury and because we're relying on a rookie as a PG, that's true. But these players are still responsible for their actions when on the court. If Bazz can make things happen off the ball, why can't Bennett? He's got the size and speed to cut to the basket and be a monster on the offensive glass, so why hasn't he? He can put the ball on the floor, why not try to get to the line more? He's shown flashes, which is why I think he should get more minutes once his blisters are taken care of. But Flip's offense, problematic as it is, can't explain why Bennett seems to disappear so much.
And Flip's offense doesn't excuse Bennett's defense at all. If Bennett can show flashes of playing some really good defense (and he really has), why can't he put more effort into it consistently and really impress us consistently on that end? He's got the tools to actually play like Love on the glass, great body and long arms, so why does he seem to miss box outs for defensive rebounds because he's staring at the ball?
Somebody really needs to get into Wiggins and Bennett's heads and flip a switch. They've both got the tools to be great players, but just seem to lack that Corey Brewer drive. If somebody could turn that on in them, look out.

Re: Early Season evaluation: Anthony Bennett
I am not excusing Bennett at all. He definitely needs to put forth a more consistent effort on both ends of the floor, but could we please stop with the Cory Brewer Drive BS. The guy was constantly loafing back on defense. The only time he dialed it up was in transition and going for steals. Bennett may be just watching Gorgi and Thad on their rebounding style or lack thereof. I am not a big proponent of having my PF putting the ball on the floor from the perimeter, and that is where Flip's offense has them positioned.
My biggest beef with this team as a whole is a lack of fundamentals. I think Pop would have a coronary if he had to run a practice with this team. None of the bigs know how to box out, not they seem to even try. We can't guard or run a PnR effectively. I have witnessed more organization on a vibrating electric football board, then when we try and play zone D.

SJM, Speaking of fundamentals, and I harp on this one a lot, who the hell is mentoring Dieng this season!? Whoever it is, they are either doing a crap job or the guy doesn't listen. He leaves his feet waaaaay too often in situations where he doesn't have to leave his feet and just stay long and strong. Our defense would be much better if our defensive anchor actually stayed anchored more often!
