Troy Daniels

Post by Q12543 [enjin:6621299] »

Keep an eye on this kid. In the few stints he's played, he has shown an elite ability to square up and get 3's up quickly. I mean, that shot looks the same every damn time. He could be a major X-factor for us the rest of this season and headed into next year.

Wouldn't it be awesome for this team to finally have a 3-point sniper that can shoot us back into a game in a matter of minutes? My goodness we have struggled to find a player like this for years - or they come here and suddenly decide they don't want to shoot (think Mike Miller) or hit career low percentages (think Martell Webster).

Flip may have unearthed a couple of cheap role-playing gems here in Adrien and Daniels. We'll see how things unfold here over the next couple of weeks, but this is what good front offices do: They find cheap, productive talent that know their role and do one or two things really well. I'd much rather have guys like this to fill in around the youngsters than mediocre vets you have to pay $4M+ per year.

Agreed 100%. I'd like Daniels and Adrien to stick here. They've been very productive while on the court, both on offense and defense.

hopefully Raduljica, Bjelica and/or Dubljevic can be that going forward at the F/C spots.

Well I'm going to need to see a larger sample size before I join in your excitement. He was only shooting it at 32% with Houston this year, and we have a bunch of guys who can do that. But the quick release is apparent and I like the way he hustles to get open. Fingers crossed he pans out. Q, your point about low cost role players is a good one.

I think this is how you build a team. You build around a set of 7 guys you pay and bunch of role players that are making near the minimum. You have a coach that knows what he needs out of each role and you find guys that have the skill. Daniels is a sniper and Adrien is a garbage man. If they both play to those strengths they will look great. If we ask them to do to much they won't be as effective.

To be fair, he took about 650 last season. (Granted, most in the D League.) He was called up late and shot well for the big club down the stretch and into the playoffs. He shot above 40%.

I don't think it was a fluke.

I also don't know what else he can do. But that's ok. If you can't excel across the board, become a specialist... especially a 3 point specialist. The league caters to guys who can do even one thing at an elite level. Daniels found his specialty and seems to be comfortable with it.

[Note: Maybe I'm just high on him because I mentioned him as a trade prospect earlier in the season. I like to trick people into thinking I know what I'm talking about...]

Good call Abe. I think if you look across his senior year of college (40% 3-pt shooter), D-League stint (huge sample at NBA distance), and the handful of Houston games last season, there is a pretty sizable book of evidence that suggests he can shoot from distance. And I'm not much of an eye-test guy, but when you see him size up a shot, it looks the same every damn time. And that release is beautiful. That's why I think he could be an X-factor for us.

Q, do me a favor and just demonstrate that you have a sense of humor. I've never seen that from you, even when I lob you up a softball.
