Based on what? To this point (which is obviously a small sample size), Bennett has been better in most categories, and looks to be more of a PF than Young.
Based on the fact that he hitched his wagon to the Bennett is a bust belief and hasn't been able to admit it's looking more and more like Bennett is going to be a rotation player in this league.
I've actually shown plenty of praise towards Bennett this year. I'm still displeased that Bennett doesn't attack more, but for the most part he's been hitting those long 2s.
And let's reevaluate what I said. Young is better than Bennett. I'm baffled by those that say otherwise at this point.
Well Cam - my post said better than anyone other than Ricky Pek and maybe Thad. So I certainly didn't state categorically that Bennett was better. I simply left open the possibility. Actually I still think Thad is better than Bennett at this point in their respective careers. You have your categorical, unequivocal certain belief that Thad is better -- the same level of certainty you had before the season that Bennett would be a bust. We should all beware that level of certainty in our own opinions. :)
Good game report, Lipoli. I like your comment about focusing on the subplot rather than the game...I think it's a good description of what most of us are doing. We're just not competitive in most games with Ricky out, and especially with Thad, Pek, Ronny and Martin out too. That said, I still get a lot of enjoyment out of watching this team. I have seen absolutely no quit in the depleted roster this road trip, and several times a game one of our future studs does something that makes my jaw drop. I like your starting lineup next year of Dieng, Bennett, Wiggins, Muhammad and Rubio...that lineup will create a lot of excitement, and we will still have great depth behind them.
I have to disagree with your positive comments about Zach. As much as I want to see him more favorably, he is what I thought he was...a superb athlete with promise, but not at all ready for regular minutes. The CBS PG rankings have him ranked 66th, and only Calderon has more MPG of the guys ranked behind him.
I was an advocate for Flip starting Zach after Ricky went down because I agreed with Flip's plan to limit Mo's minutes and I wanted to see what he could do with 25+ minutes. But I have seen enough for now. I'm not concerned that playing him is costing us victories or that his lack of success is hurting his confidence, but his inability to get the ball to our young guys in a position for them to score is hurting their development. Zach's stats the past five games: 6 assists and 11 TOs on 34% shooting in 20 minutes a game. To put that in perspective, Zach's APG the past five games is just slightly higher than Muhammad's!
I expect that Flip learns this week that Pek is out for at least 10 more days, and uses the exemption to get another PG. But if he's not confident that Ronny can contribute some significant minutes, he will be forced to get a big instead and continue to give Zach some regular minutes. Let's hope Ronny is ready to go.
It seems lost in the report was Shabazz's sold game in the box score. 9 pts, 7 boards, 1 ast, and 1 steal in 18 minutes.
Also Bud was 2 for 2 from 3. Sold game. I hope he runs with his opportunity to get some playing time. I would love for him to develop some trade value.
