Rubio signed!

Post by mrhockey89 »

4 years $56 mil ($14 mil/yr). Right where I was projecting from the beginning

Many think this is overpaying, but he is the straw that stirs the drink, and the cap is only going to go way up from here. Glad to have him locked up.

Glad the deal is done. No distractions this year! Rubio's shot looks better this year adn he's getting to the line more. He should continue to get better. Good signing.

Yeah, it's a lot of money, but to hell with it. I love watching him so much that I want him all to ourselves.

Definitely the right thing to do. Ricky has clearly improved his shot and he does so many other positive things on both ends of the court. He's also still young at age 23. More than anything, he's the kind if player we want in this organization, especially as we build around the young guys. Ricky is a fierce competitor who always gives 100% on both ends and never complains. He's a team-first player who brings people together. Even if he doesn't improve at all this deal will look like a bargain when the salary cap goes through the roof two years from now under the new TV deal. Flip continues to impress me as a coach and GM.

Porkchop, I'm already seeing improvement in the one area Ricky clearly needed to improve...jump shooting....and the rest of his game is pretty damn good. Great box score a couple nights ago. And Lip is right about what the TV contract is going to do to salaries. In three years, there will be at least 10 point guards making more than Rubio as new deals escalate, and he will be a more valuable player than many of them. This deal seems exorbitant today, but it will look like a bargain in a couple years.

Another good move by Flip.

It's a contract based on what we hope he will become. Not on what he's done. IMO I feel like that's what their rookie contracts are for. I would've waited to see improvement. Well past 2 games. He's now considered the best player on the team and Highest paid. He will no longer get a free pass from fans if he's scoring 10 pts a game and the team is losing. I see parallels starting with Mauer with even less credentials.

Chop, this won't happen unless Ricky gets bi lateral leg/back/shoulder whatever weakness and misses 1/3 his games. And misses another 15 with the flu. And is a recalcitrant me first player incapable of leading.A comparison would be Love, not Rubio

It's much simpler than that. A guy getting paid more than some of his peers for putting up some good stats while lacking in others. All the while the team isn't winning.
