Rubio signed!
Re: Rubio signed!
Pork - Ricky's contract is the same annually as Bledsoe's and overall $14 million less because Bledsoe got a 5th year. Wall and Irving got substantially more than Ricky. And in two years the salary cap will increase by about the amount of Ricky's annual salary. So in today's NBA PG market, Ricky's deal is not excessive.

Re: Rubio signed!
I'm happy the deal got done its only 3 games I've watched thsi year but Ricky looks to have a legit shooting form. I've said he will improve his shooting but now I actually have something more solid to go on than faith in Ricky based on his approach to every other aspect fo the game. Look PGs are getting paid right now any young PG worth anything is getting $$$. With the TV contract going through these deals have to be looked through the lens of whatever that holds.
Look Rubio seems like a wining basketball player I don't care if he isn't a scorer. Rudy Gay is a scorer with all the talent you can ask for, but he isn't a winning basketball player. Until Ricky proves he isn't a winning basketball player I'll say he can play winning basketball.
Is he overpaid with this contract? Maybe but like most of these after rookie deals we will see. Last year a bunch of us said that Wall's deal was overpaying although you can understand why Washington went ahead and did the deal. Wall went out and had a fantastic season and shut me up thats for sure. Ricky might do something similar although is expectations for what a fantastic season are different that Wall.
I'm just glad the deal went through it seems like a pretty reasonable deal for both sides considering the market. Both the Wolves and Ricky wanted to get the deal done. Its done everyone can be happy and have a nice season. Go Wolves.

Re: Rubio signed!
Not a slam dunk, but a good, necessary move. The alternative choice of letting him become an RFA could have been disastrous. He definitely would have been severely overpaid, and then I suspect we would have ended up letting him go.
You simply have to roll the dice with a player that can both lead the league in steals and assists, and is slowly showing signs of an improving jump shot. Also, knowing he will be around long term it should be easier for him to embrace a leadership role. Overall, this was the right move.
I'm feeling a big game for him tomorrow night!

I am glad we got him locked up, and it is unlikely the amount will matter, but I didn't see any chance of him getting anything more than we offered in RFA. Too many teams already have their PG position locked up.

All it would take is one other team to offer Ricky max money and there are some teams that would gladly take him. Dallas, Lakers, Miami could certainly use Ricky. Indiana, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Detroit, Houston are others that Ricky would upgrade.

Fabulous article justifying the Rubio deal. The author takes a balanced view, documenting Rubio's shortcomings and acknowledging that he is probably not a top 15 PG right now. But at the end of the day he concludes what I conclude...that this was a necessary and fair deal.
While I believe the deal is justified by the numbers (or perhaps, the projected numbers) alone, you can't value Rubio without considering his enormous box office value. Unlike our recently departed former superstar, he never makes a PR mistake. Almost every time Love opened his mouth, he made me like him less. Ricky is just the opposite. His allegiance to the team and city we love sounds sincere, and makes him a very lovable face of the franchise. Just read his quotes about how he felt about his airport greeting over three years ago. Ricky will always play hard, be an extraordinary teammate, make the occasional jaw dropping play, continue to improve, and represent the team well publicly. He is the opposite of Love, and someone that we had to retain at any price. Fortunately, we have him now for 5 years at a price not much more than what Kemba Walker is getting, and at a price that will sound like grand theft larceny for the Wolves in two years. Bravo to Flip and Glen.

Re: Rubio signed!
Before TV deal was set and done i would consider this an overpay, in current situation i would say it is a fair deal. At the end i am having mixed feelings though, as we decided to go with Ricky long time and i am not sure if he can grow into kind of player we need him to be. Wish him the best though :-D .

Hey, in Flip we trust, right?!?
Flip knows PGs. If he feels Ricky will develop into a PG worthy of this money, then I believe him (even though I thought so anyway!).
Abe must be fuming! :)
