The Clippers and the Mavericks have the best owners. Guys that are passionate, want to win, but don't have to be making basketball related decisions. The Clips are going to be stomping on the grills of the Lakers for many years to come.

How many owners are thoroughly involved in the personnel department beyond giving the GM a budget? The answer is not many so I don't understand why KG would take over and make personnel decisions. He'd contribute, but I don't see him as trying to pull an MJ when you can see just how bad MJ was for years. He'd be the owner, not GM. He would also at least put someone in the front office who is competitive. I just can't see a franchise go through a 10 year drought like we did with someone like him as an owner of the team. Do you think KG would have ever hired Kahn as a GM? KG would at the very least put people in place who understand basketball which is more than Glenn did for the last decade up until now. Finally, I'd be a good thing because he wouldn't be in it to move the team elsewhere which is always a big plus when you talk about someone taking over for a small market team. I don't see too much of a downside if he can get the capital to do it unless he goes full on MJ which I don't think he'd do, but he certainly could.

Timberwolves valued at $430 million before Wiggins and this team. You have to assume that number at least doubles if on the open market.

The numbers don't add up so he would definitely have to be a minority owner along with flip.

It is just a dream of his and IDK if Glenn will sell the team chances of him being a majority owner which can happening if there is a group of like 50 people that buy the team 15%

Chances of him owning less than five percent of the team. 60%

Brandon, KG could easily swing a deal like this. He would likely lay down $100 million or so out of his own net worth, get some of his buddies to cough up an additional $50 million or so, and then finance the rest through a bank. With KG's net worth, a deal like this would be very bankable.

I hope it doesn't happen. KG is an odd guy, and not a very nice guy. He always played favorites when he was here, and forced the Wolves into some bad deals. T-Hud, for instance. I want my owner to be as uninvolved in the operations of the team as possible, and I don't see KG as someone who could stay in the background. He was a great competitor in the court, but I wouldn't trust his judgment in terms of personnel moves.

I think this story has some credibility to it, and it worries me.

Who puts down 75% of their net worth into any investment?

Exactly. no one. And $100 million dollars would probably be only 10% of the team. Flip aint selling his share anyways.

KG hopes to own the team but will likely only end up with 1-5% if he does. The majority owners wouldnt let him do any decision making

Brandon, the majority owner will be the guy who puts up most of the equity plus is on the hook for the bank debt, and KG is easily in a position to be that guy...Flip doesn't have that kind of financial ability, and his <1% ownership interest isn't a factor here. Alex is probably right that KG probably isn't stupid enough to invest so much of his net worth in the deal, but I also think any bank is going to want a higher percentage of skin in the game than normal considering KG's lack of experience in the business world. But I don't see Garnett having any interest in being involved unless he can be the majority owner, He's would likely put in a substantial amount of equity, and then start including some big hitters like his brother-in-law Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis as minority owners. The bank would cover the rest of the buyout.

The whole idea scares me though, because I'm convinced KG would emulate the hands-on Jordan approach rather than the hands-off approach of most owners, and I have no faith in his judgment. It was comforting to hear Flip just say on the Funkadelic that Glen currently has no interest in selling the team. Hopefully he doesn't change his mind while KG is still interested.
