Rubio extension

Post by Eitan »

Look`s like the Wolves offer Rubio a deal for four years that could be worth $11 million annually.

If Rubio won`t accept that until the end of October, he is going to be RFA next year.

Also the wolves never thought about Bledsoe, maybe it was part of the negotiation with Robio.

By this offer, Rubio could be overpaid, but on the other hand it could be a steal, if Rubio will have a very good season next season.

Any thoughts?

I would be fine with 11 per for Ricky and would prefer he does not get to restricted free agency. That used to be a beneficial tool but now opposing teams are smarter with how they draw contracts up. Signing Ricky on another teams terms is potentially disastrous.

Not accepting this offer before November does not equate to him actually hitting the RFA market. He can be extended next summer before that.

Well technically he will be extended a qualifying offer before negotiating could begin, making him a RFA. Wether or not he seeks other deals is another issue.

Its also possible Flip and the Wolves like what they see the next few weeks and Rubio likes what he sees and both sides decide to get a deal done.

True, I guess that's what I was getting at.

I think this is all moot. Charley Walters said the two parties will have face-to-face negotiations this week. Both parties WANT to get a deal done this year. It will get done.

It looks as though Kenneth Faried is getting a 5 year 60 million dollar deal. There was some discussion here earlier that rookie scale players could only get 5 years with a max salary. Since that isnt the case, I wonder of the 5th year will be a factor in negotiations with Ricky.

Phenom, I will want to hear confirmation on this from Faried or the team, because I don't think it is consistent with what I have read from Larry Coon's website. If players are a RFA or FA they can sign a new deal like Pek or Bledsoe, but I believe Faried is still under contract for another year so I don't think he can extend for an additional five years on top of this season unless it falls under the designated player rule. Maybe they are counting this year in the five. It wouldn't be the first time a reporter got things wrong.

This Faried signing is a direct response to the new tv deal. If they are bickering with Rubio over a few mil per year they should immediately reconsider. The tv deal is going to pay out 250% more money per year than the previous deal. If we can sign Rubio to an extension by offering him 13 mil per now we should do it. Someone could blow us out of the water with the amount that the cap is going to go up. But somehow I sense that Taylor can find a way to fuck this up.
