Unbelievable how Pop and his staff can turn vanilla college prospects into very functional NBA rotational players. Corey Joseph (drafted 29th) and Aron Baynes (undrafted) came off the bench and the Spurs didn't miss a beat.

I'm not surprised at Joseph since he was playing well enough over a year ago and last year Mills dropped weight and beat him out for playing time last year and the way Mills played there is no shame in that. Now Joseph has been in the system another whole year and if I remember right is a plus defender. Oh and its his 4th year in the league and he just turned 23. Spurs are amazing.

Yep, and Kyle Anderson was drafted 30th and had a nice preseason, but couldn't get off the bench last night. If more injuries hit the Spurs or someone struggles, I think Anderson would really shine in Pop's system.
Kyle Anderson is a textbook example of a player that produced in college and has advanced skill-sets, yet scared away scouts and front offices because of his lack of athleticism. Besides their superior development system once players are drafted, the Spurs are good at identifying talent deep in drafts because they don't over-value youth and athleticism in the way other teams do. Instead, they find basketball players that know how to play. Gee, what a concept! They've been exposing the flawed logic of other front offices for over a decade now. So while we're all mesmerized by people's vertical jumps and sprint times, the Spurs just keep drafting basketball players.

So would have the Spurs picked Parker 1st overall?
I thought he was a little hard on teh pups though. I guess I don't see how teams like the magic, celtics, kings, jazz, pacers, etc. have anything over the wolves. Just having Ricky running things should put us ahead of most of these teams.

Good question. I have no idea who they would have picked first. In fact, I think they kind of relish picking in the mid to late 1st round because it allows them to identify under-valued talent and bring them on board with lower expectations and a smaller paycheck. In the end, all these people end up exceeding the performance of 80% of the lottery picks.
Q -I don't see them trading out of the 1st pick if they had it. I think they are comfortable picking later, but I doubt they would trade out of the 1st pick to get lets say late lottery 1sts over a few years. (they are not looking to add to many picks at once)
