Trade JJ and Bud for Nash and a pick

We aren't winning anything this year so why not clear the log jam and bring in a true veteran leader to mentor the young guys? He won't be able to play, but he would be a great personality to put around the young guys while he rehabs. Plus he is an expiring so we get out of Bud's player option next year at the very least. I don't understand the point of trying to win this year by having vets eat valuable playing time for the young guys. Getting the 8th pick in the draft next year isn't as helpful as a potential top 5 pick. Bazz won't get better being the odd man out and having inconsistent playing time. GR3 and Hummel both are decent depth options if it comes down to injuries. Nash's basketball IQ could prove much more valuable to our young guys than the production JJ and Bud would give to a team that's not going to make the playoffs anyway.

Yeah, Flip has an interesting challenge doling out playing time. But that's a much better problem to have than the alternative!

I will say a two-for-one trade is one of Flip's options for trimming the roster down to 15. But that player coming back ought to be someone that can contribute if needed. And I don't see the need for Nash's vet leadership when we already have Mo.

Even though an injured 40 year old Nash is probably more productive than Barea I'd still pass on this trade.

Plus I don't think you are allowed to trade an injured player.

Not sure a guy who openly admits he's still choosing to " play" be cuz he'd be crazy to turn down the money is a good fit. Not a good attitude for a locker room full of youngsters. Even if he's right. Especially now that he's out for the year.

I don't like khans' proposed deal at all, but I am wondering what the Lakers are planning to do at PG this year. Right now they have Lin backed up by two untested guys. Barea has had a nice pre-season, but he's not in the Wolves' long-term plans. I would certainly trade him for a second rounder, and the Lakers might bite.

Depth is not important on a non-playoff team. Flip can try to win all he wants but this is a low 30 win team at best and we already have depth. It just isn't veteran depth. Wiggins/Brewer/Bazz/GR3/Hummel/Thad can all play the 3 so depth is not an issue there and paying your 3rd PG 4 million to ride the bench and be unhappy just in case an injury happens is just dumb when you aren't a playoff team. We have plenty of players ready to contribute. Getting rid of JJ/Bud is not going to be a significant win difference good or bad and it could land us a pick and veteran leader on a very young team.

I was all for trading for Nash before he was hurt. I am not for it now. I like having Brewer/Budinger as backups at this point. If we got an offer with expiring contract and late 1st back I would be for it, but otherwise I would ride it out.

The problem with JJ is if a team isn't under the cap you can't just dump him on a team getting nothing back unless that team has a trade exception which I don't think the Lakers have but I could be wrong.

LST brings up a good point they don't seem to have much beyond Lin unless you call Ronnie Price who is a very experienced 3rd pg who I'm not sure is even much of a PG experience to rely on.

The Lakers are in a weird tough spot trying to compete with Kobe and yet probably taking fliers on any cheap potential players they can get their hands on for when Kobe is gone or maybe get lucky and they turn out to be good this year. I still find it absolutely mind boggling they cut Kendall Marshall and then thought they could resign him. Kudos to the Bucks for picking him up he fits in kinda nicely with their other young PGs they can play them all if they want. Meanwhile the Lakers are left with nothing at PG behind Lin who may be playing 40mpg might want to get him on your fantasy teams folks. Lol
