I'm a big fan of both those guys but IF they would agree to go to the d-league so we can hold their rights signing Dante would give us a solid deep bench guy. Personally I think Hummel even as a PF might end up being nearly as effective as Dante although with obviously a different impact on the game. He has to prove it though particularly by hitting shots.

I'm curious if either guy would agree to the d-league Hummel I'm sure has plenty of offers overseas since he had a good season before and GR3 probably thinks another NBA team would give him a shot. They both got paid some money already so that should help.

Too bad Bennett is out but it does give another player an opportunity which isn't all bad. Hopefully this is a minor thing and no more injuries for Bennett.

Also I'm not a huge fan of Dieng at PF much. I think he will play plenty at C even with Pek Healthy. He may see some minutes there at times but not regular basis unless injuries get crazy or he plays so well you can't keep him off the court which would be ok with me. :)

dunno why everybody thinks Hummel can play PF. The guy is only 6'8 220 and that might be overstating it. And it's not like he can rebound or anything

Same exact measurements as Dante Cunningham, who was our backup PF the past three years. And same height and only 10 pounds lighter than Thad Young. As far as rebounding, he's not Kevin Love, but he's right up there with other Wolves PFs past and present. Here are the per 36 rebounding numbers for last season:

Bennett 8.4
Hummel: 7.3
Cunningham 7.3
Young 6.3

Per Draft Express, Hummell was 6'-7.25" without shoes. By comparison, K. Love was 6'-7.75 (1/2" taller without shoes).

Last year Hummell's rebounds per 36 minutes was 7.3 which was better than D. Williams (5.8) and Luc M. Moute (5.3).

I'm not saying I'd want Hummell there a lot, but I think he could fill in if necessary.

Per 36: The stat that shows what everyone did but didn't actually do. I don't really like using it to compare starters against bench players, or in this case, bench scrubs. You could compare Bennett to Hummel since they played about the same amount of minutes per game, though.

Wanna know who's pretty good according to Per 36? A.J. Price and Lou Amundson.

The top rebounders per 36 from last year's wolves team were: Dieng, Love, Turiaf and Pek. The stat seems to work just fine as those are obviously the best guys. There will always be some anomalies (like Orthyus Jeffers last year due to sample size). But it's one way to compare guys who have enough data but, uneven minutes. Hummell averaged 7.1 rebounds/game in college, so the projection does not seem to be out of line in my mind.

if hummel played 36 minutes, he would not get 7 boards

He's certainly capable of doing so. Hummell had four games last year in which he played over 30 minutes. In those games he had the following amount of rebounds:

7 rebounds in 35 minutes
6 rebounds in 34 minutes
9 rebounds in 32 minutes
5 rebounds in 31 minutes
