Good point Ricky
why would we have drafted jones with Love on the roster?
Because he was the best player available
I believe in taking the BPA and he is the guy I would have drafted had we kept our pick
Don't buy it. It was the first year of Loves extension, so drafting for Loves replacement seems stupid. The team had no shooting which Bud provided. Also the win now makes less sense when Bud was just 23 at the time.
It wasn't Adelman win now mode so much as logical basketball moves
Trading for a one year rental bench player over drafting the best player available in a pretty deep draft is logical? You got me sport. LOL
FYI, TJ can play either forward position and, so yes, there was a spot for him with the Wolves as either a starting SF or backup PF or SF.
Ehh, Jones can't play small forward in the NBA, in my opinion. In college he could. Think most NBA SFs are too quick for him. He's a good power forward, though, and I like him.
PS: Thought you were hating on the idea of trading for Young. My bad and I do apologize if that wasn't your stance. I've been in defense mode about the guy considering all the less-than-supportive words flying about him.

LOL @ the bold statement. On the one year rental, Bud shot 3 points at a 32.1% clip and overall at a 41.4% clip and he managed to stay healthy for 23 games. We could have signed a low end free agent for that kind of production and still kept our draft pick.
Cam, I really like Young. I"m surprised at the negativity, but he's a very good player. He's a career 50% shooter yet others claim he's real inefficient. His percentage was off last year since I assume he was double or even triple teamed because the rest of the team was essentially D League talent.

I think this is Flip being overly confident about his coaching skills.
Thad is certainly not a prototypical PF on a playoff team. A playoff PF would have to be above average in at least 2 of the primary core competencies for a PF (defense, rebounding and efficient scoring), and the statistics show that Young is well below average in all 3. Flip has to know this, and if he doesn't, at least his son is sufficiently knowledgeable of advanced stats to know this. That's why I have always thought, and continue to think, that Flip sees Young as a means to an end...not an end himself. I still think that Flip sees Young only as a placeholder until he can find his real starting PF, and as a means to dump some players that he needs to dump to balance the roster. The rumored deal doesn't accomplish this, so I'm with grey at this point...it's more lazy reporting and BS.
Total BS. Young is CERTAINLY NOT a "well below average defender" (he's at least average, and probably an above average defender) and a guy who shoots 50% is NOT a "well below average" efficient scorer.
Seriously, I don't know why you hate on Thad Young so much. Your selective use of stats is comical. And you think Bennett is better. LMAO

You make that Bud deal more times than not. Terrible luck he wrecked his knee early in his Wolves stint. He was relatively healthy early in his career and was coming off a good shooting year. His TS% that year was higher than any wolve not named Kevin Love or Nikola Pekovic and his eFG% was even better than Love's. There were only 14 wing players in the league who hit at least 55% TS and 50% eFG while shooting more than 200 3's. That's exactly the type of shooter the wolves were deparate for. No low end free agent or late 1st was going to bring the shooting Bud was capable of. He just got snake bit.
Now we hope a year and a half later his knee has healed and he can regain his stroke.

I said this before, but it really makes no sense for the Wolves to turn this into a 3-team deal.
What would the Wolves gain? The benefit is they could absorb Thad's salary and only have to send out one expiring contract. Yet, we know they want to send out two or three contracts if possible!
It seems to me it has to be a 2-team deal. And they deal with Philly (or whoever) as a separate trade.
