Re: The Love-Wiggins Deal Thread
Anybody know the rationale behind not allowing teams to make a trade within 30 days after one of the players signs a contract?

If what is quoted above is all he said then I don't see how the NBA could do or say anything. He has every right to suggest the team will trade one of its own players and if they want to forecast when so be it. He would be in hot water if he was being detailed in what they are getting in return and he didn't do that. It's just kind of a funny way for him to say they're getting Wiggins without ever actually saying they're getting Wiggins!
I don't see it as violating the rules either, but it sure wasn't very smart. Glen should just have said Love is a great player and he's looking forward to watching him in a T-Wolves uniform for many years, but that he will always listen to any offers that may make the team better. You know, say nothing. Saying that Love is going to be traded only reduces the sizable leverage that Flip currently has. Watch the games, Glen, bounce those grandkids on your knees, and keep your mouth shut!

The Wolves didn't lose leverage by his comments. Lol come on now. The deal's likely already agreed upon and both sides are likely sitting back, relaxing, waiting for late August to arrive to sign the paperwork.

Video of Wiggins answering questions about the last few weeks and his future
Thanks for posting, monster...I found this interview quite revealing. Her are my main two takeaways:
1) Wiggins is feeling unloved by the events of the past month. Here's a guy who has been put on a pedestal his entire basketball life, and after being picked first by the Cavs, neither their best player nor their management team has reached out to him. He looked sincerely sad as he talked about that. I think Flip's insistence on Wiggins being in the deal makes Wiggins feel wanted, and offsets any bad feelings he has about the Cavs now. I think he will be a very happy guy the day the deal is announced.
2) Wiggins can challenge LaVine to a "you know" duel...he's no slouch in that area!

I think the principal pieces are in place, cam...Wiggins, AB, Love...and both sides know that a deal is going to happen. But with 3 weeks to go, I think there are still differences in other less important areas. Draft picks, Waiters, bad Wolves' contracts inclusion of a third team...I suspect some or all of these elements are still to be resolved. I'm excited enough about getting Wiggins and AB (and flushing Love) that I'm not really too concerned about these other pieces...but Flip and the Cavs want to maximize their deal. I've done a lot of negotiations over the years, and I am fairly certain Flip winced a little after reading Glen's comments. Just not a very smart move by Taylor, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Hopefully it gives Flip and Glen something to chat about for future reference.

The fact he said this tells me a deal is in place outside of very minor pieces & maybe a 3rd team. So there really isn't any leverage give up at that point.
