ESPN insider Brian Windhorst reports that a Kevin Love deal to Cleveland is basically done barring a last minute change. (1/2)
CLE will get Love, Wiggins & Thaddeus Young go to Minnesota and Anthony Bennett and picks go to Philadelphia is rumored to be a deal. (2/2)
I would hope Minnesota got picks back instead of Philly. Maybe Cool's idea of sending multiple picks to Philly and them giving one back could be in play?
I would consider that deal a bit disappointing. I like Thad Young, but I'd like to get more upside assets in addition to Wiggins -- e.g., Bennett or Waiters or at least a couple first round picks. And I really don't get the interest in dumping current Wolves players in the final year of their contracts. Those are the sorts of contracts (expiring ones) we should be keeping to free up cap space next summer. The contracts we should be unloading on the Sixers should be the multi-year deals -- Budinger, Brewer, Martin. Young's deal I believe has 2 years left (1 year plus player option) at nearly $10 million per year.
Nevertheless, getting Wiggins and Thad for Love is a decent haul for Love under the circumstances. I'm just hoping that the ancillary terms of the deal will prove to be more favorable than what was just reported.

Free up that cap space so you can sign a player like Bud, Brewer, or Martin. Gotta keep that endless cycle going
Let's be honest we all got a bit greedy with teh rumors of us getting multiple firsts, only speaking for myself in the end I have always known I would be ecstatic with a LOve for Wiggin + filler so this is great news for me

Still doesn't make sense. We would have 16 players under deals in that deal. Plus Philly needs to be adding salary to make the cap floor, not getting rid of.
That trade a beyond garbage. Flip isn't THAT stupid. Bennett + picks for Thad Young?? BAHAHAHA what a fucking joke
I'm not quite as down on this as you, Grey, but I find it disappointing. After standing his ground, drawing a line in the sand and waiting. After getting the huge break created by LeBron's decision to go to Cleveland. It's deflating to think that the only long-term asset we're getting is Andrew Wiggins. Flip must be REALLY high on Wiggins to put all his chips on him. Thad Young is either a one-year rental or a pretty pricy two-year player who is nothing more than a decent rotation player who isn't likely to get much better at this point in his career.

No. Free up cap space so you can sign better players or better fits than those three.
This sounds a little more reliable than some of the tweets of the past week, although the fact that the salaries are still unbalanced tells us that there is still more to this deal. But to me this is the strongest indication yet that Young is coming our way, and that Bennett is likely not. I'm not happy about that and was hoping that we would end up with both PF's plus unload some contracts, but perhaps that was greedy thinking. So the rumor is far from perfect, but from the start I have been on board with anything that had Love and Wiggins changing time zones...the peripheral pieces don't concern me as much, and I'll have to trust that Flip will make the best deal that he can. He's done well so far.

For whatever reason, I don't think Flip wants to move Martin (Funkadelic interview) or Brewer (J-Krawc reported he won't be moved). If Flip's serious about establishing a winning culture, then those guys are fine to hang on to as veterans to teach professionalism. The odd guy out has always been Budinger for me, but as some have said in the past, his stock is at its very lowest. Maybe Flip's hoping he'll get his knees together and raise his stock so he can deal him later.
If we could ditch Barea, Mbah a Moute and Shved in a trade to Philly, I'd be in favor of it even though they are expirings. Those guys just don't have a place here anymore and their roster spots are valuable right now.
Also, that report would seem to agree with what I posted a couple days ago. I don't think Flip is that big of a Bennett fan and he's involved for salary reasons. Wiggins, Young and a 1st is basically what I'm expecting at this point. I'm just not sure whose 1st it'll be nor the contracts Flip can clear out of here.
Cam -- I think you are probably right about Flip's thinking on Martin and Brewer. I hope you're right that the Wolves will end up with a future first -- Miami or Memphis pick. But this latest report suggests that all picks would be heading to the Sixers. The Sixers seem to be making out like bandits for a likely one-year rental who doesn't fit their future plans at all.
I like Thad, but I'm not crazy about a PF who averages 6-7 rebounds a game and isn't what you would call a rim protector. Hitting around 30% of his threes negates any notion of Thad as a stretch 4.
On the other hand, Flip might be counting on Thad not exercising his option after this season, in which case Flip is really getting Thad primarily as part of his plan to create as much cap room next summer as possible.

I think this tweet is BS. I'm seeing nothing from Brian Windhorst himself. So yeah.. I call BS.

Love + a 2nd piece for Wiggins & 3 other pieces (Wiggins/Bennett/2 1sts) is pretty realistic and I don't think it's greedy at all. These are most likely lower 3rd picks (20+) and the Wolves have plenty of leverage.

This is why your GM/Prez and coach should be different guys. Why would you WAYYYYY overpay for Young. The guy isn't a difference maker. I understand Cam's like for him, and he can certainly be a serviceable player, but you are going to be waiting on Wiggins and Lavine to develop so why not keep some future assets to add to that. I could live with Bennett or a first, but both??????
