Talking about coaching
Just thinking out loud, but wouldn't George Karl be a great 2 year stopgap as coach of this team? This team is going to need offense, and has the potential to be a big time running team, something that Karl excels at. I like his style much better for this team rather then Flips, jumpshooting style, which might be the opposite. Sure Karl sucks in the playoffs, but that isn't the goal anyway.
Looking to the future, do we want a young coach with a young team? Or a veteran coach to mold the youth? A good young coach can grow with the rest of the team is the ideal situation, but on the other hand young coaches need to develop just like players do, and that could harm the growth of the players.
Hoiberg seems like the natural fit, and I would be fine with it. Another is Kevin Olie. Seems like the next big thing, but will probably be costly.

Re: Talking about coaching
I've never been on board with Karl. He had some good years, but his cancer situation seems to have affected him. I think Flip didn't even interview him because he couldn't commit to a guy with his health risks. Plus, he is the one guy out there that I usually respect who is just wrong about the Love/Wiggins deal. Karl continues to say that Flip should have either tried to get proven veterans for Love, or hold on to Love. He doesn't seem to like the Wiggins/Bennett/Young deal at all, which makes me question his judgment.
Re: Talking about coaching
I initially wanted someone fresh from the outside to coach this team -- preferrably a young coach like Hoiberg. But Flip's track record as a winning head coach and, more importantly, his successful track record developing young players (KG, Marbury, Wally, Billups) have convinced me that Flip is the perfect coach for this team right now.

Flip is better than either of those guys, I don't see the point.
Re: Talking about coaching
I was againts flip coaching at the start. Criticize him for obviously going for it. Wanted joerger badly and was disappointed and even blame flip a bit for not getting joerger. I wanted a young up and coming coach who will grow with the team and instill a fresh and dynamic culture going forward. But I will admit Im wrong on that and on flip.
I will say right now that flip is the right choice all along for the job. You can tell that he is truly invested in the success of the team as a part owner, gm, coach and as a home town guy. He want the team to succeed badly and he is all in on making this happen. Add that he is actually a very good coach and basketball mind. He knows what he is doing and how to coach.
You can tell from his interviews that he has a huge chip on his shoulder and he is eager to prove people wrong. He is invested in the long term future and development of the team and you know that he wont be short sighted and will do what needs to be done to develop players and position the team for long term success. He is not worry about getting fired and job security. His main focus is long term success and I appreciate that.

Re: Talking about coaching
Jeff Van Gundy said Flip was the man for the job. Its more true now than it was then. This franchise is Flip's and damn he is the guy to do it all until he decides he isn't the man for the job. I truely believe that if he feels he isn't the guy anymore he will walk away. He might be the man for the job for a few years though who knows. No thanks to Karl its Adelman all over again only Karl has health problems and is more nutty. Karl didn't hardly get a sniff from any teams I think there is a reason for that. Teams are hesitant to hire older coaches teams want young guys right now. There is a changing of the guard in NBA coaching.

Re: Talking about coaching
I'd take Flip over Karl, especially with this team. I like Flip's emphasis on playing two way ball as opposed to Karl's emphasis on offense. I also like that Flip is not in the twilight of his career like Adelman or Karl and I think he's got the right amount of patience to handle this team. KG prospered under Flip and I think all our young guys will get a fair opportunity to succeed under Flip.
