Offical Free Agency Thread
Offical Free Agency Thread
24 hours until free agency begins. Flip already said that he won't be actively recruiting any free agents this year but that doesn't stop us from dreaming. Our roster space and cap space are extremely limited this year which is kind of a bummer. Who are your top targets? Do you think we'll see more superstars teaming up? Are there any players you want the Wolves to avoid at all costs? Let us know
Re: Offical Free Agency Thread
Most Wolves fans would agree that Barea needs to go and a new backup PG should be atop Flips list of free agent targets. A few names that spring to mind are Grevis Vasquez, Shaun Livingston, and Mario Chalmers. Pretty much anyone of quality is going to demand our full MLE and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable giving any of those players that kind of money. Whoever we get I want them to be able to facilitate, after watching Barea these past few years I don't think I can stand watching our backup PG make the wrong decision time after time

LeBron James. He'd be a good get...
In order of preference, while assuming a reasonable price.
- Jodie Meeks
- Greivis Vasquez, Steve Blake, D.J. Augustin, Ramon Sessions, Shaun Livingston
- Kris Humphries, Jordan Hill, DeJaun Blair

Jodie Meeks? Is that assuming we thin out our wings?
Re: Offical Free Agency Thread
I'm on the Vasquez bandwagon.

This is assuming... Well, we have zero depth at shooting guard. Sure, the plan is to have LaVine get some PT, but consistency is golden in the NBA. It's also a given that LaVine will have his struggles at times as a rookie, as most do.
Meeks was terrific last year in a starting role on a bad Lakers team, which shows to me that he could spot start here if needed. Feel like he can be had for cheap too. He'll be the Marco Belinelli signing this year that everyone praises in a year.
Like Flip (and every other intelligent basketball mind) said, you can never have enough shooters. We had three (if you count Budinger) last year... Big problem.

Volans, yeah, I would hope we fins a way to thin out our glut of mediocre wings, and bring in some other mediocre guys at other positions. Kidding...kind of. My list is similar to Cam's:
PG (if we can dump Barea): Sessions, Vasquez in that order
SG: Meeks
PF: Jordan Hill
Would love to find a way to deal/drop Barea, Bud, LRMAM and replace with 3 guys above.

I can't believe we are talking about giving the mle to another mediocre role player. That is how we got into this mess last season. I can only hope that Flip learned from his mistakes, and lets the FA market play out for awhile rather than overspending again for minimal talent. You can't pay our backup PG 5 mil a year to play 10-15 minutes a game. Successful teams sign those type of guys for 3 mil or less. We need to start clearing out those type of contracts, not adding more.
I would have no problem rolling with JJ again this season. He isn't the problem, and has an expiring deal. A good coach will harness what JJ does well, and limit his mistakes. Hard to fault a guy for shooting too much, when he had no other scoring options.

I have a lot of disagreement with you here. Barea needs to be traded or bought out. No way can the Wolves begin next season with him on the roster. He's selfish and not good enough to be selfish.
Scoring options or not, Barea wasn't looking to pass and generate good offense. It was JJ vs five opposing players almost every possession. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of watching the little Puerto Rican hobbit dribble the air out of the ball followed by hoisting a bad shot.
