Miguel Sano is having a sensational rookie year, and would be a ROY candidate in almost any other year. But it doesn't look likely this year. Carlos Correa is putting up offensive numbers almost as good as Sano's, and while Sano is primarily a DH and still a work in process in the field, Correa is already considered an above average SS. Here are the comparative numbers:

Sano: .282/.390/.577 12 HR 37 RBI in 47 games
Correa:.278/.347/.510 15 HR, 43 RBI in 68 games

So, not enough separation offensively to make up for the big contribution Correa makes in the field. Unless Correa collapses the last month of the season, a ROY award for Sano doesn't seem to be in the cards.

It's actually a terrific year for AL rookies, because in addition to Sano and Correa, Francisco Linder and Roberto Osuna have also had great seasons. Lindor doesn't have the power numbers of his competitors, but he is hitting .310 and is a magician at SS. And Osuna is closing for the contending Blue Jays and has a 1.91 ERA with only one blown save.

Any one of these four rookies would be a great choice, but it's probably going to be Correa. I'm happy with what Sano is giving us though.

I'll be pulling for him, that's for sure...he's had an extraordinary start to his career. Sure, he strikes out a lot. but it seems like most of his K's are deep in the count, and he doesn't get cheated on the third strike. I don't mind the strike outs, as long as he keeps hitting dingers.

Correa is pretty special too, and I'm looking forward to seeing him (and Altuve) at Target Field this weekend. Maybe the Twins starting pitching can come back to life and shut these guys down, and move Sano higher in the ROY race.

I'm admittedly a fair-weather fan of the Twins (pretty much the opposite of the Wolves - is there even such a thing as a fair weather fan with the Wolves since the "fair" part never happens?), so consider this visit of mine a quixotic intrusion into your clubby little board here of loyalists.

So with that being said, YES!!! Twins WIN last night to get back on track, with Sano and Mauer back in the fold today (hopefully)!.

Yes, there are no "fair weather" Wolves fans on this board...only die-hard fans who are either masochistic in character or willing to wait for a well-deserved ending. I'm actually a die-hard partial season ticket holder for both the Wolves and Twins, and see some similarities in the franchises... wretched results over the past few years, with the hope of young talent taking us to the Promised Land. I'm going to enjoy both rides.
