Stephen A Smith

Post by all_day_88 [enjin:6666373] »

Stephen A Smith is all over sportscenter this morning saying we turned down a deal with the warriors that was kevin love kevin martin and our first round pick next year for Klay Thompson, david lee and Harrison barnes.

I'm not even sure we can trade our first round pick since we owe it to the suns

That should be a deal we turn down. You don't get the best player in the deal and a first round pick from the team who is going to get worse. They should have to pony up a first or Green and take our first off the table. I still don't like a GS deal over a Cleveland deal because of how much it is going to cost to be a potential 8th seed or low lottery team (keep in mind that we still owe PHX a protected pick that is top 12 this year I think). I think paying Klay the max would be a problem especially when negotiating with Ricky. That's going to be an expensive team with not enough wins to justify it.

Kahns, do you know if we can get GS to do a S&T with Klay for the max 5 years, and then still offer the same to Ricky? That is a question I have when making a deal with GS. I agree we should not be sending back a first, and should be getting one back in that deal as well.

It is good to see it reported by Smith that Klay is on the table though. While I don't always like Smith's delivery, I do trust him and his sources.

They'd have to negotiate the max extension with him now and I don't see them giving him a 5 year max with the Wolves still negotiating with the Cavs. To be honest, I don't want either Klay or Ricky at a 5 year max. I'd rather QO them both and make them sign an offer sheet and match because you could end up with a Bledsoe or Pek situation where the max market may not be there and then we get them at a discounted rate or you only have to pay them the mini-max for 4 years instead of 5. I'd rather get the max deal over a soon as possible and see if they earn the second max than try to get that 5th year at a discount for unproven players at this point. Neither of them are max guys at this point and I don't like the idea of paying guys before they deserve it at that level of money. I think you'll see it with Haywood and Parsons this year with how overpaid they are going to look given their production. Having Ricky, Klay, and Lee all at the mini-max level with Pek right below them at 12 would be a disaster because then we'd have no cap space. If we slip out of the top 12, we have no first round pick. All we'd have left to negotiate is role players who aren't going to net you significant young assets.

Hey it maybe a deal where flip is going to GS and saying "hey Cle offered Wiggins what do you got" GS offers that and Flip goes "alright we'll talk to Cle and get back to you"

Kahns, I have the same line of thinking, but I also considered that the cap is likely to take a big hike, which would lessen what they are getting in the grand scheme of things.

I figured the wolves would have a good chance of making the PO's if they did the GS deal. Lee is no Love, but adding Klay and Barnes should give us enough to get over the hump imo.

That trade was rumored to be offered before the draft. It was Love, Martin, No. 13 for Thompson, Lee and Barnes. Fuck Golden State. If I'm Flip I don't take negotiations with the Warriors seriously for two reasons. 1) They're not playing fair; acting like Thompson is of equal value to Love. 2) Even with Thompson, their package sucks.

I also want to see GS never win a title with their current core and have to deal with the ridiculousness of their stance on Klay during most of these negotiations. They have to pay Klay and Green next summer combined with Bogut, Lee, Curry and AI already being on the books for 40.5 million. If I were Flip, I'd just hold off and send them a pic of that luxury tax check he is going to get from GS along with a pic of Wiggins' rookie deal.

There isn't a trade out there that is going to make the Wolves a better team next year then last year. Not when you trade Kevin Love
