We can't just try to make contact with the ball and expect to get anywhere beyond mediocrity. We have to swing hard That's why I loved the LaVine pick. And that's why I'm hoping for the Cleveland deal. For all we know, Flip may like the Bulls deal better. He may think that he hit the long ball with LaVine and that now he needs to dial down a bit and get something less ambitious but maybe more certain like the Bulls package. We'll see.
By the way, don't believe reports that the Warriors have made a final decision on whether to offer Klay Thompson. Also, I am certain that the Celtics are still trying to come up with a package. Flip isn't going to pull the trigger on anything until he knows he has the best possible deal.
Another thing about Flip. He doesn't blow smoke. That's part of why I think he's been so effective in these negotiations. Others front office executives around the League know Flip is a straight shooter. So when he tells them an offer isn't enough or tells them he's prepared to keep Love, they know he's serious. They've tested him, but his firm resolve has confirmed what they already pretty much knew about him. Flip is honest and firm -- no pretense, no smoke screens, no BS.
The contrast between Flip and his predecessor is striking. Keep doing what you're doing, Flip!![/quote
Made that baseball analogy three weeks ago and got no love. U mustve got new information that swayed ur opinion.:)
No new information, Porkchop. I used the baseball metaphor in a post on draft night in reference to LaVine. So I think I beat you to it. Stop using my metaphors!! :)

Right, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Flip go for the Chicago because of his stated preference not to do a full rebuild. He may consider Chicago to be roughly equivalent to GS without the toxic Lee contract. Gibson, Mirotic, McDermott are nice pieces, all of whom could contribute.
The Cleveland deal is a bet on Wiggins being a great player.

Everyone that's high on Mirotic needs to be patient and wait on Dubljevi?. He's better than Mirotic, in my opinion. Plays a much more physical game than Mirotic while being just as wet from three. 2x Eurocup Rising Star already. Flip got a good one with him.

Papal -- I agree with you completely. As I suggested in my post, Flip may think the LaVine pick was enough of a home run swing and that he needs to dial down a bit on the Love trade to, as you suggest, avoid a full rebuild. So it's not easy to predict what Flip will do. I could easily see him doing a deal with the Bulls along the lines reported. And of course, he could end up doing a Wiggins deal with the Cavs. That's the one I'm expecting. But he could also end up doing a deal with the Celtics or Nuggets that hasn't been reported yet. There have been a lot of instances where, after a lot of speculation over certain possible deals, the actual deal comes out of nowhere with little advance warning.
So stay tuned. I'm guessing that Fliip is a very busy guy right now with his phone glued to his ear.

Re: Bulls vs. Cavs
I have to think Wiggins is Flip's priority. Think he'd thrive in taking the challenge of getting Wiggins to reach his full potential. Also, I think Flip's son would help Wiggins and his handle and decision making. If I recall correctly, I remember reading an article on how he helped Wall and Beal take their games to another level. Anyways, Flip could mold Wiggins and LaVine at the same damn time. It's been said that he wants to redeem himself around the league. What better way to do it.
Re: Bulls vs. Cavs
If you believe in Wiggins thane you desperately want the Cavs deal. If you don't there are alot of options. I'm not sure where I stand I still haven't really dug in on Wiggins becasue I held out hope Love would stay and really didn't think the Cavs would give up that pick. Things have changed and maybe now that I have finishes watching the Wolves SL games I'll research some on Wiggins.
The Chicago offer could make this team competitive right away. We would maybe soar to one of the top defensive squads with that trade. Getting 2 starters and 2 good young prospects in McBuckets and Mirotic sounds like a decent haul. I wonder what junk we would get to ship out. Butler looks like he is about to get paid so that has to be factored into the trade.
I absolutely think one of the factors in what Flip is doing is having some cap space to sign one or 2 of the euro guys next season. Those guys may be big factors as another poster mentioned earlier in this thread.

I'm ready to swing for the fences. Why not? We need to build a new legacy instead of revisiting the old one. We really don't know what the Cleveland deal will include past Wiggins. Too many variables in all these scenarios to make a definitive judgment. But I think it's obvious that the Cleveland deal is the one were going to get and I am more than fine with that.

That's not a real fair comparison, more than Wiggins would be coming back from the Cavs. Bennett could still be very good, Waiters still has lots of fans, Thad Young would a nice pickup if he's included, and you could still hit with a draft pick.Q12543 wrote:PorkChop wrote:With Butler being Wiggins floor I dont see how theres a question
Because there would be more to the Chicago deal than just Butler, whereas the Cleveland deal pretty much just features Wiggins.
I've always been partial to a Chicago deal because I don't buy the Quality > Quantity argument with Wiggins. I think he can be very good, but not necessarily great. Butler, Gibson, + McDermott or Mirotic could give us three good to very good players versus one good to very good player. But others disagree of course.

As much as I would like to swing for the fences and land that superstar (ie. Wiggins)----this past championship, won by the Spurs, shows you that the team is the biggest factor. Great coaching helps, but ultimately if everyone plays within their capabilities that the team would win out. The Spurs won against the mighty 3 headed monster....would anyone of us thought it was possible?
What we really need to remember is that Rubio is going to be in the same position in the near future. We swing for the fences and miss----we'll in trouble. We take the Chicago deal, and with have a team that could grow and complete in the latter years.

The team is what is important, but don't sell San Antonio's individual players short. Duncan is the best PF of all time, and while old now, still one of the best. Parker is a top 3 PG. Manu is probably the best non-starter in the league. Kawhi Leonard is a premier wing defender who shoots 40% from 3 and can finish at the rim. It's not like they cracked some magical code and beat Miami with a bunch of scrubs.
