And Drew, I watched Wiggins' highlights again after reading your summary, and I agree that there isn't enough there for me to pronounce him a good ball handler. I think Wiggins was fouled on a few good drives to the basket that didn't make the highlight video, so his handle is better than the video shows. But I have to agree that he didn't demonstrate very good distribution skills during SL. It's something he may have to work on, but I remain confident his upside is very, very high.
Good points, long. And summer league is notorious for discouraging passing since these guys generally haven't played together and haven't developed much chemistry, even more reason not to draw many strong conclusions regarding playmaking. And it's clear Wiggins has some really impressive athleticism, and even when his shot looks a little awkward, he does have a seem to have a knack for getting shots to go down (at least in a highlight reel!).
I understand everybody's impatience, and I get annoyed by "we should have done X" threads as much as the next guy, but I still think this is worth having a rational discussion about. Maybe the Wiggins deal is a signed and sealed and just waiting to be delivered. But until it happens, I think it's at least having a discussion about what to do with this whole situation. 1) Keep Love (which I'm still crazy enough to kind of want), 2) trade him for more proven players, or 3) trade him for more young, potential guys. The Bulls v. Cavs issue is just a way to get at that larger question, which is the biggest decision we've had to make since we traded KG.
This is a huge moment in the history of this team, which I've followed closely now for 15 years and some of you even longer than that. What direction are we going to take? You don't make a decision like that without kicking the tires a little.
For the record, I want us to do whatever's in the best interest of the team first, but in terms of Love, I'd be happy to see him stuck in the Western conference, where it will be much more difficult for him to go deep into the playoffs. He seems to think he deserves to be on a contender just because he's a good player. I'd kind of like to see him struggle and get "hurt in the heart" a little more to learn a lesson about taking responsibility.
