I am tired of wasting picks on one year rentals, and then having to overpay because we don't want to look foolish for making the deal originally. I am also tired of getting guys that always have to play undersized because they are either too slow, unskilled or both, to play the position their size should dictate.
Young should be a SF, and was considered one coming out of college, but due to his poor perimeter shooting and handle, he has shifted to the 4. He is a couple inches shorter than Love and gets abused in the paint defensively.
So expirings and a 2nd rounder is as much as you would give for Thad? I can't say I disagree. One of those expiring contract we have may look good to a team needing a guy down the line this year and they would be easier to trade for than Thad making over 9 million. Sure they may only pick up another 2nd rounder but the way the Sixers are going they want all the assets they can get. Maybe they even take Bud (probably not but whatever) just because the need salary and his 5 million next year if he doesn't opt out is nothing since. They don't have anyone expensive anyway. Plus if Bud is actually healthy he could turn into a nice asset for them. Playoff teams love shooters and they might give up a future first of some other decent asset for Bud. Of they can give him a ton of minutes so he looks good and he opts out because he doesn't want to stay with a bad team and will get a nice deal elsewhere. That was to much writing about Bud. Lol
Clearly I'm by myself in this, but Thad Young is a better player than he gets credit for on this board. Now I'm just hoping Flip acquires him, he balls out and I can put on my "I was right" hat.
Trust me, I realize highlight videos don't tell the whole story. They're highlights, of course they don't. But this a 22 minute Thad Young video for those that really don't know what his game is like. I don't remember who it was, but someone asked about Young a while back. Anyways, here's the link:

I see him flourishing with Rubio big time, and hopefully Flip does as well. Keep in mind this guy just turned 26. He's entering his prime years.

Im with you on this cam. Young is a much better player than given credit for. If your willing to roll with bennet as your pf. No reason not to with young. Both udersize but young has played there most of his career and was a starter for the philly teams that made the playoffs.

Cam I think the bottom line is that Thad is a good player and if we aquire him he can help the team this year. I see him as sort of a Jeff Green type a guy you would like to have on your team but you aren't sure where to play him but he can play. Thad is the type of combo forward this team has been looking for for a while. AK was that guy and other than him Dante sadly was probably the most effective one we had which he is a. Solid bench guy but probably shouldn't be the first guy of the bench on a good team.
Its hard to get too hyped on him when its a good chance he is a 1 year rental. If he was signed for 2 years I think people would be more willing to give up more and also consider him a nice rotation player at worst which is what he would be. Maybe he ends up resigning for some good but reasonable money or just opts in for 1 more year because he likes playing with Rubio Pek and the kids. He sounds like a loyal guy but he wants to be on at least a decent team not a total rebuild like the sixers. It would also be nice to have a young vet like him help guys on the court its nice to have a mix of young guys and vets imo.
I'll mention here also it seems like Flip used a few undersized forwards back in the day with reasonably good success. I don't think anyone is against getting Thad I think everyone would like to get him just some are not willling to give up an asset for someone we could just sign in FA in a year. Who are the teams lining up to get Thad? Maybe there are teams that have offers idk. I haven't heard any recently but that doesn't mean there aren't any.
Cam, you are missing the point. Most people here prefer Bennett's "potential" to Young's "WYSIWYG". But most people preferring Bennett are absolutely fine with getting Young, too.
So we will let you put on your "I was right" hat a few years down the road ONLY if Bennett fails to exceed Young as a player.
[Edit: the video you posted is the one monster posted earlier. It is the one that convinced me Young is the starting PF we should target, with Bennett coming off the bench. ]
I'm not missing the point. LST, sjm, khans, Q, monster (kind of), Grey and likely several others have expressed that they either don't see Young as a starting PF for us, or Bennett/Thompson would be better options, or that they wouldn't give up one of the 1st round picks we receive from CLE for him.
I'm saying he's more than just a throw-in, if we can get him, and would be a good piece to get out of a Love deal. Personally, if Philly wanted Bennett and expirings for him, I'd do that in a heartbeat. I'm good with a package of expirings + a 1st as well, but like I've stated, the "Bennett has high potential" argument doesn't work for me.
Anyways, Young's a good basketball player. I'd like him on the team and I believe he'd perform better than expected. That's all that I'm saying.

No, you are saying Bennett is Derrick Williams 2.0 and will never amount to anything in the NBA. :D
Tim and Cam are both correct here, I think, in assessing the views of Young detractors here...or at least my views. After 7 years in the league, we know what Young is, and his career rebounding and efficiency numbers place him at the bottom of the league's PF's. Many of us are more willing to take a chance on a guy who could potentially be a star, than go with a guy who's ceiling has already been determined.
But I'm not adverse to Flip trading for Young and even starting him this year, since I don't think the Wolves have much of a chance of reaching the playoffs this year anyay. In fact, if Flip could unload assets we don't need (JJ, Lexi, Luc), I would even endorse such a deal. But I am not willing to give up a first rounder for a guy with such mediocre stats and no upside.
I don't see how trading a former #1 overall pick in year 2 of his rookie deal for a possible 1 year rental on a non-playoff team is smart in any capacity. Even if Bennett is just a role player, you lose that trade if Young leaves after 1 year because you are guaranteed to have Bennett for another 3 years. You really lose the trade if he become a starter level player. I think trading Love for Wiggins kills any shot at the playoffs this year so we should be accruing as many young assets as possible, not trading them away for mediocre assets that don't make us a playoff team. Seems like a short sighted move to make because you think less than a year's worth of games is enough to say a guy is going to be the next D Will. I would rather go the tank route with Bennett starting at PF than be at the cap with a Ricky/Martin/Wiggins/Thad/Pek starting 5, ditch a long-term asset and end up with a worse pick but still no playoffs. If we can get Thad and keep Bennett, great, but I'm not giving up Bennett for a year of Thad just to get a worse pick and still not make the playoffs.
