I'll stand by it, anybody can put up shots and score. I would rather have an athletic defensive Favors than love. Just like many on this board would rather have an athletic defensive wiggins than love
Anybody can put up shots and score? He's the first player in NBA history to record 2,000 points, 900 rebounds and 100 3-pointers in a single season. His numbers place him in a group with seven Hall of Fame talents, including Wilt, Baylor, Kareem and Barkley. This isn't your regular top scorer on a bad team. This is an efficient, big time scorer who contributes on the glass and in facilitating the offense, while being an above average three-point shooter. They don't make those every century. There are guys like Derrick Favors every draft (Noah Vonleh this year). So you can stand by it all you want to. Just know that it's an absolutely absurd statement to make.

They'd have to renounce their whole team outside of Lebron, Kyrie and Wiggins which at that point why wouldn't you just trade them with Wiggins to get Love now and not waste a year of Lebron's prime on rookies? Lebron is a 21 million cap hold. Wiggins is going to be around a 5.4 million cap hold. Irving is going to be around a 15.8 million cap hold (based on George's max) and the rest of the empty roster spots would be about 7+ million. Even that doesn't leave them enough to sign Love to the max. It leaves them enough to sign him at around 16 million to start with a 66 million dollar cap which is 5 million a year less than his max. I don't think Love settles for less than the max.
Edit: This isn't even including the cap holds for the multiple picks they have in next years draft that they would have to dump for nothing.
In theory, letting RFAs sign an offer sheet is fine and good but if there is an opt out in the contract, then Ricky and Klay would have the power to pull a K Love on us. I'd rather pay Ricky a little more and be sure to secure him to the team.
sjm34 wrote:Not even close. If the cap is over 66 like the estimates say, they could already have close to 15 mil available by simply renouncing guys not under contract (Thompson, Varajao, etc.).
They are over the cap now, next year Kyrie's deal kicks in. They still would have cap holds on all their draft picks next year. They would have wiggins and bennett at 5 a piece.
So ok Kyrie at 15, 2 rookies at 10, cap holds of like 8, miller at 2.5, Waiters at 4, plus Loves 20. So like 59 mil.
So ok they could give Lebron 7-8 million. He ain't doing that
Love isn't getting 20 (more like 18.5), and the cap hold for picks is probably closer to 2 mil. Cleveland will likely be a top ten team next season, and I wouldn't expect Miami to be that far behind, so those picks will likely be around 20, not top five.

No team is going to give Ricky or Klay an opt out if they are already signing them to a max deal. They would want the 4 guaranteed years to make it worth offering the max. Kahn backed himself into a corner with Love by not offering the 5th year, so he had to offer Love the 4th year opt out in good negotiating faith. If he was smart, he would have just let Love hit RFA so we could have had him for 4 guaranteed years.

whatever you guys sorry that I have a different opinion than the norm. Im a lifelong twolves fan but call me a troll if you want. My opinion is that defense is more valuable by far than offence and favors is miles ahead of love in that category.

Tony Allen must be better than James Harden. Ricky Rubio must be better than Tony Parker. Half the league must be better than Melo. See how your argument comes off as ridiculous.
