Get ready for dark days Wolves fans

Post by alexftbl8181 [enjin:6648741] »

Flip is coaching this team next year. Anybody who doesn't see that writing on the wall is blind.

So we are going to have the same guy as coach and gm, both positions that flip has shown to be average to below average. Giving him both responsibilities isn't going to make him better at either.

Ill always want my GM to be thinking long term success and the coach to be thinking about winning every game. I know people hang on adleman not playing rookies like bazz. But if the coach didn't think bazz could win the team games now, I don't fault him for that choice. Is coach flip going to play bazz a ton this year to develop him for the future? I guess so. Will it probably cost us games in the now? I think so. The only 2 people on the planet I would trust to be both coach and GM would be Pop and Larry Bird.

Kevin Love. Thats the biggest question of all. I know all the talk is Love going to the Lakers for their lottery pick. I might do it, but Love would never go for it. He's not that dumb and he doesn't love LA that much. He won't agree to a trade to a team that has an over the hill Kobe, no coach, no real cap space, and now no lottery pick. I don't see Flip trading Love this offseason. I do however, see Flip panicking around the trade deadline, if the wolves aren't having a Blazer like season, and giving into the pressure. Of course it will be 40 cents on the dollar, Wolves go back to cellar, and we try again in 2030.

Needless to say I have no faith in Flip

Only point to this non-story is that Love doesn't have an option to "not be traded" as you infer. We can trade him for whatever, and whomever we would like. Otherwise...drivel.

Wow! that is quite a jump. Step back from the ledge. I'm not a fan of Flip, but it might be a little early to abandon ship.

Guess what? This isn't the MLB where players have no trade clauses in their contract. If Flip wanted to trade Kevin Love to Philly for Thad Young and some towels, it'd get done and Love can't do a thing about it. You're putting way too much power into a player who doesn't work the phones.

You immediately assume that playing Bazz would cost us some games, but completely ignore the fact that it could help win games as well. How nice of you to be so Adelman-like and forget about Bazz's performance against Phoenix, in which he was the reason MIN won the game.

Flip has had one off-season. Count it. ONE. He signed an efficient 20 PPG scorer for 6.5M per year, which is incredible value. Now, will we need to move him at some point? Sure, but he'll still be a three-point specialist in the later years of his contract, which does hold value to a playoff team. That's an issue for the future.

He also signed Corey Brewer, who played much better than his contract would imply this year. I still think he's better suited for the bench, but as a starter he was more than fine. Great chemistry with Rubio and Love, and one of the few guys on the team that has a burning desire to win; hates losing more than he likes winning.

Turiaf turned out to be a fantastic signing too. Only problem was he couldn't stay healthy, and that might not be his fault. He was being overused due to Pek going down and Adelman's lack of trust in Dieng.

Speaking of Dieng, Flip was the guy who drafted him. Are you going to give no credit for that either? C'mon guy. I know you don't like the thought of G replacing Pek, but the fact that he's even getting that discussion brought up should say volumes about Dieng as player.

The only real mistake Flip made last off-season was re-signing Budinger. That's it. If that's enough of one negative to kill all the positives he did then that one's on you.

I'm completely on board with Flip running the front office.

not a no trade clause specific no, but he just says that he won't resign there. Just as good as a no trade clause. See the Carmelo NY-Denver situation

cam the problem you have is that your looking at the players last year. When Flip signed those guys, it wasn't the money so much as it was length. last year was the best your going to get out of those players. How will Martin look in 2 years from now? Brewer pretty much had the best year he's going to have and both players still had major flaws. The teams cap space is maxed out, and that's not counting extending Rubio. JJ is a perfect example. He looked like a great deal his first year here. Year after year though, he became a huge wart on this team. Flip opened the window to about 2 years for no reason.

Consider me blind then. . .Btw, dark days could be 75 and sunny compared to the last 10 years.

Maybe. But maybe their production will hover around the same. I don't see Corey's activity lessening so he should stay around the same, either as a starter or off the bench. Martin's game revolves around shooting, and I don't see him losing that either, though it would be best to limit his minutes in the future. Major flaws, sure, but together they make around $10M a year. I can deal with that.

JJ is not a perfect example. His contract has always been terrible and even JJ couldn't believe he got it. Kahn overpaid like hell for the little Puerto Rican ballhog.

For every sport, I give the new regime a three year window to put their stamp on the team. Saying you have no faith Flip after one year is a bit premature, in my opinion. Mainly because I feel like we have playoff talent on the current roster, yet our coach had 80% of his head in the game and our sustained injuries (Bud, Turiaf) and/or regressed (JJ, DC, Shved, D-Will).

I have been a fan since 1989. Flip could be GM, coach maybe even run the concessions stands and would still be better than some of the truly dark days. I am not saying Flip is great or a miracle worker and I do want him to hire a good coach, but good grief Flip isn't some basketball idiot. Even if you haven't been around as long as I have living through the Rambis Kahn era was pretty freaking dark.

Flips offseason last year was both good and bad. Good because he added a couple good players and resigned guys he should have, but bad because Chase got hurt some players sucked (Williams Shved) and there was no backup PG. People like to harp on JJ but he isn't the problem its that for a couple years now there hasn't been the depth needed and its forced him to play too many minutes. I am not saying he is good or whatever, but the guy is actually a legit NBA basketball player you just need to be able to have another option. Much of the time he has been here there hasn't been one. Lets see if Flip can find some cheap role players (McHale was actually good at this for a number of years getting guys for Flip to utilize (Ellis, Hoiberg, Billups just to name a few) to fill in some gaps maybe make a couple minor moves (like trading JJ LOL) and get a coach that fits the roster. Its not out of the realm of possibility. This team is a ways from being a contender, but its also not super far away either. Look at the Wizards and eh Pacers and those teams built up a nice roster without alot of people really taking notice. The wizards may not be a contender, yet, but I think I would be pretty happy with what they have if I was a Wizards fan.
