thoughts on moving up for stauskus

Post by worldK »

I believe that stauskus wont be available @ 13. He has an elite skill (shooting) and an above average skill ( ball handling and playmaking for a 2 guard) That along with the disappointing combine numbers of harris and mcdermott, I see stauskus being ahead of them.

Would a pek+13 for varejao+9 be workble? Pek would be ideal pick and roll partner for irving and a good fit next to thompson but im not sure cavs do that since varejao will be an expiring and is a better defender. I would do it on our part even if it might cost us a 2nd rounder or a euro stash. What do you guys think?

No thanks, if for no other reason than I want Kyle Anderson. If Stauskus falls to us then so be it, but I wouldn't expect to any major contributions with our pick, other than a solid bench player. Which is why I wouldn't use our best trade chip in Pek primarily for Stauskus, even though I realize that Varajao is a nice player. If we trade Pek lets get us a starter at SF/SG (ie Green/Afflalo) that allows us to move Brewer/Martin to the bench.

At the Chicago pre-draft combine Stauskas had high body fat % so that gives me just a little pause as well

Lol we're worried about Stauskas' body fat? He's no Glen Davis. I'm sure that's not an issue. I wouldn't be worried about his work ethic in that regard either. Guy put on 16 pounds of muscle last off-season. He knows how to build in the weight room.

I wouldn't use Pek solely to trade up in the draft, and no I don't know what other asset we have that we could use to move up.

This is probably an unbalanced offer, but Pek/Martin/13 for Varejao/Waiters/Gee/9 and I'm for it.

I am not in favor of using Pek to move up and bringing back Varejo who has missed twice as many games the last 2 years as Pek and is older makes no sense even though I get this is sort of a salary dump. I still believe Pek has value as a trade chip and jumping up a few spots in this draft I don't think its worth giving up a really good starter at C to do that. Take who falls to you. I like Stauskus actually, but I also think some people overrate him to a certain extent. I am not sure his upside is that high. I would be plenty happy if he fell to us at #13 though.

I'd rather stay put at 13 and not downgrade.

PJ Hairston looks more and more like the guy we need.

9 might not be high enough. I could see Van Gundy plucking him away at 8. That said, I think the wing position looks promising enough in the 13 range to stay put at this point.
