Speak for yourself. I wanted Monta two years ago. Then I wanted him last summer but he didn't show any interest in coming here. The guy knows how to put the ball in the hoop.

Thats how this board is... Thay don't want anyone good that makes BIG CASH!!!!!!
Re: None of us wanted Monta Ellis
Not to sound negative, but I think this has to do a lot with coaching, Monta always had the talent but did not play that hard on defense and did not play to a team concept on a consistent bases with his first two teams (GSW,MIL). Once Rick Carlisle (IMO top three coach in the NBA) got a hold he changed and has come the player he is now.
The same thing happened with Deandre Jordan (Lip brought him up on another topic), Deandre Jordan has always had the physical tools to be a top center in this league, even though I don't think he is there yet, Doc really made him into a top 10 Center in this league and arguably top 5.
I am not saying this would not have happened with the wolves, Rick did not develop players to a big enough extent in his run as the wolves as a head coach. I compare Rick a lot to Tubby Smith when he was the Gophers Head Coach. I appreciate what both coaches did for both programs, they made us respectable again, but could not get us over the top and both deserved to be fired.

I was one that didn't want him. More due to his defense, but I am eating crow now.
Re: None of us wanted Monta Ellis
Honestly I still don't want him. As a person who used to watch the Bucks on a consistent basis, the dude is a total headcase and can be an awful player if he is not catered too. Then again it might just be the toxic atmosphere surrounding the Bucks that turned him into a god-awful chucker during his final year there.
I think kekgeek is right, Carlise knows how to bring out the best in his players and is willing to tweak his system to allow players more success, something Adelman never did for the Wolves

I wanted him. At one point before Love really became a star I wanted us to trade him for Ellis, that probably keeps me in the shame on us category though.
Re: None of us wanted Monta Ellis
I don't think anyone here really thought he was gonna get less than 10 million. I was not a fan of Ellis but I would have been interested at 9 million a year and he got a little less than that. It was a great deal at the time for Dallas but they were a little lucky they were one of the teams that had cap room to just flat out offer him a contract at the time.
As other have said Ellis has been very good at times and the right coach could have a good effect on him. Carlisle was a great place for him to go I thought that at the time. I don't think it woudl have worked out as well in MN not just becasue of Adelman but becasue a variety of factors. I am just thankful we avoided Mayo.

I didn't mind Ellis either.
He and Rudy Gay seem to be the two guys whose reputations were hit pretty hard by the trend toward analytics.
