Fred's comments confirm what I've heard. Fred loves the NBA and would like to return to the NBA as a head coach or GM. One inaccuracy in the article is the suggestion that Fred and Flip are close. Not true. As Abe pointed out, the only issue for Fred is timing. Fred might prefer to wait a year or two for the Wolves situation to become more clear.

Doogie reported yesterday that the Wolves have not contacted George Karl or Hollins. If true, that's ridiculous and further evidence that Flip intends to use delay to help position himself to become the next head coach. Note That Flip has simply said he's too busy right now to see himself being the head coach. Here's the quote:

"We're in the process of opening a new $20 million practice facility that's going to open in October. We've got a $100 million renovation of our arena, we've got situations with signing players, with Ricky Rubio getting an extension possibly this summer. And our Kevin Love situation. So we've got a lot going. Right now, I've got a lot on my plate, and that's enough right now to deal with."

Flip listed things that he'll be generally done with by mid-summer. Then those things on his plate "right now" won't be on his plate anymore. So he'll delay the selection until he can tell Glen that the major front office work is done and all the top candidates have already been hired by other teams.

It's up to Glen to put his foot down now. flip continues to invoke the phrase "never say never" when asked whether he'll be our next head coach. Taylor needs to call Flip into his office, look him in the eye, and say NEVER! Then he needs to tell Flip to move his ass and aggressively pursue the best available head coaching candidates, including both VanGundys, Hollins, and Karl.

I understand if the guy is busy, but #1 on his list should be coach, #2 draft and then resigning players. The arena things are more then likely delegated. I still think the timing might not be perfect for Fred, but if he wants he should be calling Glen. The buck stops with Glen.

The Magic have exercised their option on Jacque Vaughn, so there is one less coaching vacancy that could have been available...

And Doogie had these two tweets:

Darren Wolfson ?@DarrenWolfson 49m
Disclaimer: it's not just smokescreen season in the NFL. Vibe from a couple people, FWIW: #Twolves haven't given up on Hoiberg pursuit.

Darren Wolfson ?@DarrenWolfson 45m
No call yet. I don't expect there to be one either. #twolves RT @uofmike: @DarrenWolfson Damn Flip, just sign George Karl!

Lip, Isn't it also possible that some potential candidates are current coaches or assistants in the playoffs? Perhaps there is some legitimacy in waiting a bit.

Also, George Karl....Yuck. I question his motivation and attention to detail at this stage of his career. Also, has he ever been known as much of a defensive-oriented coach? It seems like the biggest difference a head coach can make these days is on the defensive end of the floor (notwithstanding Jeff Hornacek, who somehow got career years from multiple players on offense this past season).

Thought it was funny Bill Simmons tweeted the other day that Chicago would trade Thibs and then hire Hoiberg. I strongly believe if Hoiberg is making the leap to the NBA, he's going to the Wolves without a doubt.

Yes, no doubt in my mind either.

Lip, was Hoiberg the guy your source told you about. I saw on Doogie's twitter that the wolves are still pursuing him, which would be funny since Flip said it wasn't happening.

I'd take Mark Jackson. I heard he was a little hard to get a long with but based on his team's performance I think he'd be a good fit. I know he had Iggy and Bogut but a top defensive team with the rest of those guys is pretty solid.
