I believe without a doubt Karl can get this team into the playoffs, but his ways don't work in the playoffs. I guess we could deal with that when the time comes. Goals should be to keep Love and make playoffs. I'm warming up to the idea of Karl.

Wait. Didn't I call the Flip is the next coach angle months ago... only to be shot down by Lip and his inside sources?

[Note: As for other positions being filled first. Those are better/more marquee jobs. This coaching job COULD be the worst one in the NBA within 18 months.]

Abe -- I predicted Flip would be our next head coach the day I heard him refuse to say he would not be when asked at the press conference announcing him as our new President of Basketball Operations. Several months later I was told by a source that Taylor did not want Flip to be our next coach and that he wanted to bring in Fred Hoiberg instead. I was also told that Fred was interested. I assumed Taylor's will would prevail and that Fred would remain interested.

Unfortunately, I think my assumptions will prove incorrect and my initial prediction will be right. I'm still hoping that Taylor won't allow himself to be so shamelessly manipulated by Flip, but I'm not holding my breath. Flip is a clever little guy.

Man, i hope glen would have stick with his plan A and pursue hoiberg. Fred has potential as coach. It seems flip is getting his way. If flip makes himself coach then i can see him coaching for 5 or more years and hoiberg would have gotten an opportunity somewhere else by then.

Mchale might be in trouble if the rockets fold to the blazers, il rather have him back as coach than flip.

Don't see why (1) Hoiberg would leave Iowa State right now. He's doing great. They LOVE him. He is a god there. (2) The Wolves job is not a good one right now. At least not until the Kevin Love situation is resolved. So, Hoiberg would be leaving a place where it would be next to impossible to lose his job... to a place that churns through head coaches every couple/three years.

Abe,

Fred wants to coach in the NBA. He is very close to Glen Taylor, his parents have a lake home in Minnesota and Fred and his family loved living in Minneapolis. Also, he doesn't like recruiting. Other than that, I'm not sure why he'd want to coach here. The timing might be an issue for him, but no doubt he'd like to be the Wolves' head coach at some point.

You are right that the uncertainty surrounding Love is a negative for any head coaching candidate. The Wolves might be a more attractive destination if Love is traded for an assortment of young players and draft picks to go with Rubio, Dieng, Pekovic and Shabazz. Then again, that doesn't sound very appealing. :)

Yeah, I can see Hoiberg coaching in the pros. I just don't see it happening now... especially not here right now since it's almost the opposite situation than what he has at Iowa State.

Hoiberg did an interview in Des Moines, and while he continually pointed out that he liked his position at Iowa state, he never actually came out and said he wasn't leaving. I would think he would put any rumors to bed if he was already decided. Izzo came out and stated he was staying, but I have yet to hear those words from Hoiberg.

Now LA is looking for a new coach too. We are certainly not the marquee opportunity for a new coach. Flip it is.

Very politically savvy statements from Hoiberg. They don't call him The Mayor for nothing!
