Hibbert available

Post by thedoper »

The rumor around Indiana is that they want to trade Hibbert. I actually think a Hibbert for Pek trade would make sense for both teams. I know that Hibbert was historically bad for part of this season. But if those personal rumors are true I think that makes a lot of sense since he did step up and play amazing in a few of the playoff games as well. If anything I think Hibbert would improve our interior D and help Georgi's development. Plus we could probably ditch JJ in that trade as well.

My thoughts exactly. Also, two less years on his contract

I'm on the other side on this one, as I still want Flip to pursue exchanging Pek for a bigger need than another center. I believe we are well set at center with Dieng and Turiaf, and third string centers are not difficult to find if one of these guys were injured. I wonder if Flip is thinking the same way, and that is why he is giving Fesenko a look in Summer League. And if Dieng proves to be a viable option at PF in Summer League, I like the combination of Pek/Dieng more than I like Hibbert/Deing.

My assumption was the combination of Hibbert/Love assuming Love stays this season with Dieng being gromed as the center of the future by practicing against and learning from Hibbert. I agree to an extant if Dieng can progress he would match up well with Pek but it is still a total wildcard that Dieng is there yet. Despite his exciting skill set he is still raw in his body control and hasn't solidifying anything beyond promise and potential yet to me. Upgrading Pek while Hibbert's value is down would go a long way for our roster now which is philosophically what I hope we are aiming to do right now.

I get it, doper, and I agree that Hibbert is a better pairing with Love. It shows you where my head is with respect to Love that I didn't even think of Love when the Pek/Hibbert proposal was made. It's official...I've moved on :) .

I'm not a fan of Hibbert. He's slow, isn't very strong which is a problem at his size and he can completely disappear in games. That's a problem when he is making max salary. I'd rather give Dieng minutes and use Pek to get an upgrade on the wing. I don't know who that'd be but I think even with how effective Roy is defensively, the last thing I would want is Hibbert on a max deal if Love leaves. He's also a horrible rebounder which is a big red flag at his size. He'd certainly help defensively, but I don't know if that is enough to keep Love and then you are paying him a lot of money when he is a 4th option on a good team.

I would keep rolling with Pek. We will need his offense with Love is gone.

Pek's 18 / 9 / 1 >>> Hibbert's 11 / 7 / 2

And I'd prefer Dieng over Hibbert based on contract, health and potential.

I think alot of people on this board undervalue Pek. He is arguably the second best offensive center in the league behind Cousins.

Hibbert showed how overrated and mediocre he really is during the playoffs. Didn't he go two games without even getting a rebound?

That's something not talked about much here when it comes to trading Love. He was the 4th highest scorer in the NBA last season and did it quite efficiently. That is a massive hole to fill and it's something the front office needs to be very mindful of when pursuing trade options and managing the rest of the roster (who to keep, who else to shop). Despite his injury woes, Pek is one of the few players other than Love on our current roster that can create offense for himself at a decent clip. Unfortunately, an aging, defenseless Kevin Martin and an unproven Shabazz Muhammed are the other two natural scorers on our roster. After that, the cupboard gets really, really bare.
