Q, that may be why they made the jump from 14 to 3, but that doesn't happen if Klay isn't on their squad. Klay was often taking the opponent's penetrator. Flip said it himself on one of his KFAN interviews that our bigs would look a lot better if our perimeter defense wouldn't allow as much penetration. A great defending big is wonderful to have, but it won't matter if Shaq is behind you if it's a 2 on 1 at the rim. Personally, I feel Bogut is a bit overrated all around, but I consider Iggy amongst the best defenders in the league and would love to have him as well. Klay is a big part of why that team has been able to be so good defensively despite having what you yourself classified as a "terrible" defender and another very poor defender in Steph Curry, and I'll stand by that. In fact, if Golden State gives up Klay and Lee for Love and Martin, I think Curry will look a lot less of a franchise player without his Robin to cover up his flaws.

That's the only thing I can't explain. How pissed would you be at Flip if passes on the guy? I just can't believe he's that dumb. He's actually made few mistakes since he came back.
Wiggins not being signed could be for 2 reasons.
1) to give a tad more cap flexibility for filling the roster out.
2) to keep the possibility of a trade open w/o having to wait a month.
Wiggins isn't on the table just like Thompson isn't on the table. Why? They are low balling the Wolves which is what any team does in this situation until their hand is forced.
Personally I think right now that tactic is stupid b/c once the top FAs are off the market it will leave a lot of teams that will take a shot at acquiring Love. Unfortunately it sounds like Pau may be signing with the Bulls which could take them out of the Love running. Either way it seems teams are waiting it out to see where the chips lands before getting serious about trading for Love.
Pretty stupid if you ask me. A Love/Lebron at end of games would be unbeatable. Both can pass, score, command doubles. That's the best 1-2 punch since Shaq and Kobe

It is stupid. I honestly thought the Wiggins Love deal was going to go down right after Lebron committed. The Cavs simply missed the boat.

If the cap savings from not signing Wiggins is under a million, that's not enough to sign a veteran to the minimum which are the guys they are looking to add at this point. Vet minimum was 1.2 last year and the cap went up. Not to mention you can sign guys at the minimum anyway regardless of your cap situation. I don't see how an extra million in cap space is a valid reason for not signing him at this point.

I wouldn't say they missed the boat, but they may end up having to give up more than they expect.

Re: Who blinks first?
A month or two ago I told my best friend I think LeBron goes home. It's been in his mind for years that he eventually wanted to go back and with the way the Heat are right now and the timing for the Cavs, it made too much sense. I also said that Love for Wiggins is going to be a possibility at that point. He said I wasn't being realistic and there's no chance.
A couple days ago when it looked like 50/50, he said to me he thinks LeBron is going back and if he does, Wiggins for Love is a lock. I told him 'not so fast' and that I believe it's only about a 55% odds that that goes down (really, I was more like 50/50, but I was swayed slightly by his optimism and how much sense it SHOULD make for the Cavs).
Now I think the Cavs have about a 25-33% chance of landing Love via trade. I think their GM is overthinking this and thinks he can get Love without giving up Wiggins, essentially having his cake and eating it too. I think it's unlikely that they can pull that off. Maybe if they can work a 3-4 way deal where we get picks, Waiters, and Favors, or something MAY tempt Flip, but I still don't believe that's likely. I also am not convinced anymore that Golden State is a legitimate trade partner. I think they realize they'd be shaking their nest more than they originally thought if they got rid of Klay.
I don't think Love to Golden State is a no brainer for the Warriors, but I *do* think that if Flip holds strong, that the Cavs should be willing to part with Wiggins...I just don't think they do. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my gut on this right now.

I think he's not signed because he's going to be a T Wolf.

That money wouldn't be about going to a vet minimum guy. It would be so they can offer someone more.
IE: if the cap space is currently 4 mill and signing Wiggins would cut that to 3 mill then they have less money to give someone like a Mike Miller.

Thank you. You finally stuck your neck out like I've been doing. So now we know where you stand. Gentlemen's bet between you and I. I say Wiggins stays a Cav.
