Good question, Cam. First, I'm not convinced they made that offer. Second, I think they knew Flip would turn it down in which case they could placate the fan base by showing they tried while refusing to hang onto fan-favorite Wiggins. Obviously I could be way off on this. Just my gut sense.

Question: would you trade Love for a package of Waiters, Bennett, and Thompson? I'd be tempted.

Cue Cam's loud NO in 5, 4, 3...

I'd be tempted too, but not yet

LeBron and Rich have been informed of Love even before his decision and LeBron wants him .. Cavs have kept them involved in talks and have told them Minny is playing hardball but ultimately they will get Love to form a new big 3 In CLE .. that is ultimately want LeBron wants and he knows the big 3 and the rest of the roster are a lot younger and more talented then any team he played on in his entire career including his last 4 years ... like I always prefaced in chat take it FWIW.. but so far he has been pretty good.. only thing he did tell that was off was that he thought Zeller was on the block and would be traded for a big(Lopez)..but obviously Zeller was shipped out to Boston .. so we will see

Also.. TT will not go anywhere.. they like his D and his toughness.. he is Paul's client and LeBrons boy..

It's Wiggins + Waiters + Thompson/Bennett (future 1st if Bennett) or keep Love. I know that's not the popular thought, but I value Love as what he is: 25-year old All-NBA power forward doing things no one in NBA history has ever done.

As LST and I discussed in lengthy posts in pages previous to this one, I hate a CLE trade package if there's no Wiggins involved.

Would anyone on this board take a package of Tristan Thompson, Bennett and Waiters for Love (no Wiggins)? I know Flip won't, but would you?

My position is well documented. I want Flip to complete a deal before the start of the season, but despite my impatience, it doesn't have to be right away. I want him to hold firm with Cleveland for a couple weeks at least before he budges. Although I don't concur, there are too many people saying that a Wiggins deal has to happen. I also want him to explore any possible options with Boston.

But if it gets to be late September, and Flip senses that the demand for Love hasn't changed, I would accept the Cavs deal you are suggesting. But I wouldn't love it.

Cam -- I'm guessing your view is shared by many. I actually agree with your assessment of Love. However, the odds of Love staying here after next season are, in my view, exceedingly slim. Therefore, I believe we need to get what we can even if short of an optimal package like the one you described. I wouldn't take just any deal. But I think we can get a deal that's good enough. For example, I would accept a deal for Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, McDermott and a future first. I'd also take a package fom the Celtics that included Smart, Olynyk and several future first round picks.
