The owners took the players to the cleaners in the last lockout. That's a huge reason (along with the massive impending tv deal) that team values have skyrocketed. Now, those same owners are spending foolishly for guys like Gordon Hayward ($15M+) while also asking the superstar guys who are worth much, much more than Hayward to make less than him.
The owners have already won. (until the next lockout) Now, they're trying to eat every cake in the window. The players owe it to themselves and the next generation of players to get what they can when they can.
The owners blatantly lied during the last lockout and still got the majority of the public to back them. Now, they are acting foolishly again... and hypocritically again... and some people are still supporting them?
Personally, I don't get the scorn toward the athletes on this one.
Yeah I agree, the players are going for their piece of the pie, but in reality the pie is getting far too big. I wonder how this new massive TV deal is going to affect all of us paying for cable, etc. This shit is excessively expensive as it is.
And that's the rub.
We follow sports where the first step in negotiations between players and owners is ALWAYS to take it away from the fans. It's pretty clear to see where we fit in as fans.
We're pawns. Rubes. Whatever you want to call it... but neither side has our best interests in mind. And why should they? They know we're not walking in protest anytime soon, so why wouldn't they just keep taking and taking and taking...?

Decency. We have too many Walmart minds & not enough Costco minds in this country. Eventually people will say enough is enough.

It's nice to think that. I think we all do to a certain degree.
But there's nothing significant to show that it's going to happen. What's the closest? Maybe Seattle... but that was primarily a product of politicians and look at the hoops they're going through now in regret...
Weird. I thought SJM was a regular poster here? Never would have suspected he'd be a hired gun out here on behalf of billionaires trying to win over the hearts and minds of the people well in advance of the next CBA shell game.
Here's a helpful life hint: if a really, really rich person is telling you something, it's probably a lie. That's sorta how they get rich.
