Re: Shouldn't Flip just tell Love....
I want the Wiggins trade as much as anyone on this board, but keeping Andrew might be in Cleveland's best interest. If they sign and trade for Love, that likely puts them well into the Luxury Tax for future years, although I am not salary cap expert. Plus, Wiggins is supposed to be the real deal, so why would they get rid of him? I realize you never know with rookies (ala D-Will) but Wiggins costs a fraction of Love and stays that way for at 4 years. If they can get Wiggins to play defense early in his career and bring his offense along slowly with LeBron and Kyrie, its a perfect situation for them. Everyone thinks they need another 'big 3' like Miami had, but Wiggins might be worthy of that in a year or 2. To make a long story short, I think Wiggins will not be a T-Wolf.

If they use their options on their young talent, they'll be in the luxury anyways, and I doubt Gilbert is unwilling to pay it as long as the team is winning championships. Kevin Love paired with LeBron and Kyrie would bring championships.
I hate that people are assuming Wiggins reaches his potential. It doesn't work like that. He's high ceiling, sure, but he could just as easily bottom out and leave Cleveland with another wasted top pick on their roster. When you have a chance to acquire a top-10 (top-five in my opinion) talent, you do it and don't look back. This is especially true when you already have the best player in the world on your team. NO BRAINER.
And have you looked around the East? Without Love, it's not a sure thing at all that they make it out of the conference. Chicago looks to be much improved with Gasol and Rose healthy. Wizards will be another year developed along with adding Paul Pierce for the playoffs. Indy's going to stay tough as long as they re-sign Stephenson. Can LeBron and Kyrie carry that band of misfit toys to the NBA Finals? Personally, I doubt it. I really do.

If I am Loves agent I start to put pressure on both the Cavs and Warriors.

I can't believe this hasn't happened yet. What the hell is Cleveland doing? Yesterday I tried to rationalize why CLE would hold on to Wiggins and others, but the more I think about it, why gamble if you're freakin Cleveland? Bron-Love-Irving gives you a championship contender for the next 5 years.
Is it because this new coach is involved in personnel decisions already? Their stupid owner? Do they really hate Love?

Anyone else like what the Celtics have to offer over the Warriors?

Love's agent makes the most money if Kevin signs a max contract with the team he is currently with, and since it's unlikely he will ever re-sign with the Wolves, you have to believe his agent is pushing hard for a trade. If Love leaves in free agency, it costs Kevin a lot of $, and it also costs his agent. I'm not sure how much impact the agent can have in making a deal happen though.

I think that is obviously the reason they are pushing for a trade now, it's certainly not to do the Wolve any favors, they just want to maximize his next contract (preferably on a playoff team). That would seem to work in the Timberwolves favor (see Chris Bosh resigning in Miami with Bird Rights). Part of me wants to see the Wolves ride this thing out and let him walk with less money if he is so insistent upon leaving. I'm a vindictive SOB.

I am vindictive too, Mike, and I also am trying to think of Kevin getting potentially less money as a "win". But unfortunately, whether he gets the maximum he can get from a current team or signs a lesser but still huge contract in free agency, Kevin will still have more money than any of us can even imagine. I'm not sure that Kevin is too worried about the difference between a ridiculous amount of money and an absurdly ridiculous amount of money. Probably means a lot more to his agent than it does to Kevin.

Yeah, you're probably right. Don't forget though, one of the reasons Love reportedly wants out is that he felt disrespected by the Wolves organization for not maxing him out on his last contract.longstrangetrip wrote:MikeAz wrote:longstrangetrip wrote:PatrickBateman wrote:If I am Loves agent I start to put pressure on both the Cavs and Warriors.
