I've been looking around and can't find this rumor reported anywhere. Doesn't make enough sense for the Pelicans to be valid anyways

Think it makes sense for both teams actually. More of a risk for the Wolves, but the reward is good enough.

Pelicans would get more contract years, but a good SG and a bench player for a contract they hate is good value for them. Holiday/Martin/Aminu/Davis/Asik, Robert/Evans/Anderson off the bench. They need role players and they're looking to do everything possible to get AD in the playoffs. Martin's defensive weakness would be masked by Aminu, Davis and Asik. I also think they're trying to make a little wiggle room for Asik's deal that has yet to be processed, though it's already agreed upon.

For Minnesota, we get out of Bud's deal, open up opportunities for Robinson/Muhammad, and we roll the dice on a 25 year old who could finally be getting past his injury troubles. It's also hard for me to envision Gordon not being able to produce like Martin produced (19 PPG with good percentages). He's essentially a two year player (no way he opts out). He can create off the dribble and we definitely need more of that. His youth and potential are very intriguing, no doubt about it. If it doesn't work with Gordon, we essentially dumped two longer deals for his as we'll be in rebuild mode anyway.

One of those deals where it's good for both organizations.

The reason I think it doesn't make sense for the Pelicans is that they would be trading away their least desirable contract for two injury plauged players who have bad contracts last last longer than their one. If they truly don't think Gordon is a better player than Martin + a bench scorer than we should jump all over it. That being said no reported rumors from Woj, Zgoda, Doogie, Stein, Amick, Berger, not even on Hoops Rumors means that this probably hasn't even been discussed.

I would love for this Wolves to do this though

Yes it does. I saw Doogie was asked about it on twitter and did some researching and it took me to RealGM and the Pelicans board and one of them had a "source" that said it had been discussed. Probably not true, but I just threw it out there to see what your thoughts were. The guys on the Pelicans board loved the trade idea and want to get rid of Gordon

hmm... Makes you think if its reliable or made up. But I would hope its true and we made this deal. The pelicans do this because they add two rotation players in this trade and they need depth and shooting and this trade helps them in both categories.

Thanks for posting, Volans. Apparently Gordon doesn't have many friends in New Orleans. :). The post seems legitimate, so I buy that the Wolves made the offer. Maybe it was part of a three-way with Golden State.

They hate him because he tried his hardest to get to Phoenix and acted like a PO'd brat when NO matched. Then his injuries continued to plague his career while he was making max money. He's never lived up to the max deal or been close so far and that lack of production combined with the way he acted when they matched does not make for a good relationship with a team and city. He won't give up his starting spot to Tyreke even though Tyreke was only effective in a starting role for them last year (team would have probably done better had Gordon accepted a role off the bench because Tyreke just couldn't do it). That's why I think this deal makes sense for both sides. Martin can come off the bench as a shooter next to Holiday and Tyreke. Tyreke gets to start again which is when he plays his best basketball even if it isn't great to begin with. They get depth they sorely lack at the 3 with Bud. They clear out about 3.5+ million in salary. We get rid of our clutter at the 3. We get a guy who can do basically the same thing as Martin even though it is for 2.5 times the salary.

If Gordon finally gets healthy he can be a borderline all-star caliber player which is a higher ceiling than Martin who is who he is at this point in his career. Like others have said, this is another home run risk Flip should probably be taking if he is going to keep Love this year. If the Gordon of old returns, that would leave our only weakness at protecting the rim which we would just flat out be able to outscore most nights. That would be a team Love would have to seriously think twice about leaving considering the immediate winning ability and the crop of young players we have in the stables waiting to get better and expand their roles during the prime of his next deal. It could go south if Gordon just doesn't have it any more, but he'll at least be able to give us Martin-like production with better defense so it is still an upgrade even if he doesn't get back to his old form.
