Re: Official 2014 NBA draft thread
I get less and less impressed with the draft around where we pick.
I still want Patric Young in round 2.
Flip needs to have 1 prerequisite for any draft picks he selects this summer: Don't be a bitch. We need more guys that will man up. At the moment I can't get truly impressed by anyone other than Gary Harris and Adreian Payne
I feel like Flip's gonna draft Ennis

Being a Florida fan, I'm okay with Pat Young as one of our second rounders. Just think with Pek/Dieng/Turiaf that we're already set at center. I'd rather go high potential draftee who fell or Euro stash.
So you only have a thing for two MSU products? One that was hopping up and down, clapping his hands like a baby to get the basketball on the perimeter and stomped his feet when he didn't. Of course I'm talking about Payne here. Consider me not impressed by his manliness.
I don't see how drafting Ennis is a loss. Of course it depends on who else is available, but selecting a freshman PG like Ennis who can do it all can't necessarily be a bad thing. Not sure if you were saying it would be, however, maybe this is just your prediction.

Re: Official 2014 NBA draft thread
Going off todays Draft Express Mock.
http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2014/
I would go
1st Round:
13th - CLINT CAPELA - http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Clint-Capela-6359/ - Perfect backup to Love. Practicing with Love, Pek, and Dieng would help him develop. I really wanted a wing, but this guy has the potential do be one of the top 3 players in the draft when it is all said and done.
2nd Round:
11th - SEMAJ CHRISTON - http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Semaj-Christon-7026/ - PG with solid size
15th - SHABAZZ NAPIER - http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Shabazz-Napier-10083/ - A good backup PG - I doubt he really falls this far. I see him going late 1st round.
24th - THANASIS ANTETOKOUNMPO- http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Thanasis-Antetokounmpo-71005/ - chance to be a good defender and gives us a worker athlete. Likely won't make the team. I would rather have him then Hummel at this point. I could see Rubio setting him up.

Re: Official 2014 NBA draft thread
No way would I take Capela this year. We're set with a Love/Pek/Dieng big man rotation barring trade. Where we NEED help is on the perimeter. We don't have a good backup PG or SG, and most of us would agree we see K-Mart as a sixth man type down the road anyway. If we draft a big at 13 over a guard I'll lose all faith in Flip. And for those that are ready to yell the "best player available" argument at me, settle down, I get it. This draft is looking to be so deep, though, that we'll have a good guard available at our pick regardless of what happens before us and the talent level amongst the guards and bigs is relatively similar around 13.
For fun, I'll do a mock in the same format you did using Draft Express, though I have my own disagreements with how they did theirs.
1.13: SG Gary Harris (he'll be gone realistically, so plug-in SG Nik Stauskas :thumb:)
2.11: PF/C Mouhammadou Jaiteh (high potential, Euro stash)
2.15: PG Shabazz Napier (won't be here, but yay for fun)
2.24: C Wang Zhelin (Chinese big man, stash away)

Cam. I understand, but the Capela seems to have the making to be something very special. I don't see that with any of the guards.

Meh. I like the potential of Stauskas more than most and I understand that. I think we're already special enough with Kevin Love and we should improve our team's guard play, though.

If we trade Pek, then Capela would be a need pick.

Willie Cauley-Stein would then be a better pick than Capela, in my opinion. And that's why I said above "barring trade" in reference to our big men.
Even with a Pek trade for a wing, our guard situation is not ideal. Good choices to choose from at 13. I don't like Capela nearly enough to take him over the guard group or Cauley-Stein.

Capela is younger, longer and put up better stats in Europe then Cauley-Stein did in the NCCA.

Cauley-Stein's the fifth offensive option for Kentucky. Randle, Young and both Harrisons get their points before WCS does. Scoring isn't going to be what makes him good in the NBA. They rebound the same, but Cauley-Stein is far and away the better shot-blocker, P&R defender.
Not to mention the talent difference. College ball is way better than French basketball. Capela's going to be 20 shortly after the draft; Cauley-Stein will also be 20. They're both young.
I don't think the decision comes down to WCS vs Capela, but if it did, Cauley-Stein should be the winner.
