Offseason plans

Post by Hicks123 [enjin:6700838] »

What does everyone want? Here is my plan:

Trade JJ Barea for cap space - Not sure this is realistic, but wishful thinking

FA Signing: R. Sessions / Jordan Hill

Draft - Rodney Hood or James Young

C - Pek / Dieng / Turiaf
PF - Love / Hill / Moute
SF - Brewer / Shabazz
SG - Hood / Martin / Budinger
PG - Rubio / Sessions / Shved

Barea for cap space? He's due only $4.3 million next season, the last year of his contract. Even if we traded him without taking any salaries in return we'd be well over the salary cap. Whether Barea is on the roster or not is irrelevant to the Wolves prospects next season. If we trade him we won't get anything significant in return. If we keep him, the key is to play him a lot less. Make him. 9th man instead of the 6th man he's been this season. But take note that, other than Dieng, Barea is the best player on our bench. That's not intended as a compliment to JJ. :)

Any role for barea on this team next year is a detriment. It tells me this team didnt do enough in the offseason to get better. Barea peaked with Dallas cuz his skills were an added bonus to an already talented team. He got hot for a couple games when it counted. Kudos to him. For a less talented team that needs to maximize every spot on the roster he doesnt offer enough. IMO

I like the idea of Hood over the Michigan/st prospects becuz while he has an ability to knock down shots like them he also has athletic ability.

I am anti JJ as much as anyone. I do think he has a role that we can maximize his strengths with. He should be playing off the ball next to Rubio and not the backup PG. It doesn't mean we don't need another SG it just means that is where we can use him to create the most match up problems. I'm not a fan of Hood. He was the second best scorer on a team that lost in the first round of the NCCA playoffs. I really see him as more of a 20's pick then top 15. I would go with John Adams before him.

If this is your stance, then you must be down on Smart, Embid, Wiggins, Parker, Ennis, etc as they all performed below expectations for the tournament. The reality with Duke, and many could see it heading in, was that they simply weren't very talented. They had zero big men, and any size gave them issues all year. Duke was simply way too highly rated this tournament. While I don't love Hood, I think he provides skills we need, and solid value at pick 13.

With respect to drafting Hood, I make the same point I've made on the "trade Pek for Deng" thread. Why do we want to add a 6th SF when we still don't have a legitimate option to pair with Martin at SG? If we were going to draft a SF, and I don't think we should, McDermott would be a better option...50% chance he's there at 13 I think.

If Flip drafts something other than a SG, he better have a good plan for picking up a solid SG by trade or free agency.

I'm expecting SG all the way UNLESS Flip goes Tyler Ennis. I don't think he will, but I wouldn't hate it either depending who's available.
