So ESPN just rolled out their new favorite all-encompassing advanced stat.
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/RPM
Some interesting things about this stat:
-It loves veterans, and in general doesn't like rookies. Guys like Derek Fisher, Chris Andersen, Andre Miller, and Kevin Garnett scored incredibly well. Most rookies and the 76ers team look pretty bad.
They rank all 435 players in the NBA. Looking at how some Wolves come out...
-The stat loves Rubio. It rated him as the 2nd best defensive PG and 6th best PG overall. Other surprising PGs in the top-10 were Beverley, Bledsoe (best PG defender), Lowry, and Conley. These were all above guys like Lillard, Wall, and Irving.
-Love and Pekovic are positive defenders. Wolves had seven positive defenders--in order: Turiaf, Rubio, Pekovic, Mbah a Moute, Love, Dieng, and Hummel.
-Love (5.4, 10th in NBA in RPM) , Rubio (3.9, 23rd), and Pek (2.94, 46th) are the clear top-3 on this team. Brewer was also a positive (1.1) and the stat was pretty neutral on everybody else that I don't mention. Kevin Martin was actually a slight negative.
-The numbers that will make people the most angry are the three bottom players: Dieng (-2.8, 337th in NBA), Barea (-2.97, 344th), and Shabazz (-4.66, 405th). Like I said, it wasn't kind to rookies. I think the Barea as sole ball-handler experiment is over after this year. As for the rookies, they did look pretty lost the first couple months of the season. The numbers are probably reflecting that.
Anyway, check it out.

Interesting that Love AND Pek would rate well in that stat. Has to do with how little they fouled, maybe? Not sure. Thanks for sharing!
