I graduated from Iowa State. Ames is a great place. Fred likes it there a lot. But he also liked living here. And his parents have a lake cabin in Minnesota. Just saying.... I'd prefer Stan VanGundy. But I'd like Fred too. Whoever the Wolves are considering, I'd definitely make sure Love is ok with the guy before hiring him.

Guys, I've heard SVG brought up frequently. I don't know much about him as a coach. What is his coaching style? Do we know if he has any relationship with Love? Is he known as a guy who likes to work with young talent, since Dieng, Shabazz and this year's pick need to contribute more next year? Sell me on him.

I saw him build the Dwight Howard and 4 3 point shooter offense Houston has now way back in Orlando and riding it all the way to the Finals, form what I remember he kind of got the shaft in Miami too, both times he was fired I thought he kind of got screwed

My impression is that he got screwed in Miami and Orlando, but then I wonder if he's a guy that always finds conflict. He's had problems with Riley, O'Neal and Howard in his coaching career. Is there a chance he's a little too volatile?

Fred has one thing in Ames that he can't get anywhere else. If he wants to coach the rest of his life for the Cyclones, they're going to let him. He's called the mayor for a reason. He is a legend in Ames and $3.5 for a few years is nothing compared to $1.5 million for as long as he wants. Job security on that level just isn't available in the NBA.

Agree. I would be delighted if the Mayor took the Wolves job (doubt he will get 5M, Khan was desperate). But it is possible that the Mayor thinks 1.5M is enough, and that he already has his dream job. Still, love to be proven wrong. If not Freddie, than Howland?

Stan Van Gundy please. Forget about the disagreements with former players/associates. Stan Van is a master of molding his system to players' strengths. How refreshing would that be after watching old man Adelman's "my way or the highway" bullshit? Stan Van would also get the most out of Gorgui Dieng I believe.

Stan has said in the past that he'd rather coach in a warm weather city, but there aren't too many head coaching jobs that have as much talent as we'll likely have next year. Stan holds players accountable, gives the media something to write about and he gets winning results. Who would have thought that Orlando team with Dwight and shooters would make it to the Finals? Not me.

Disclaimer: I also wouldn't mind Hollins or Hoiberg, but I think Stan Van has to be at the top of any team's HC search. Haven't seen anyone say this name yet, but I won't be happy if we target George Karl. For all the "great coach" compliments he's received, he's had a ton of first round exits with plentiful talent. Might as well just have Adelman 2.0

I'll say again I don't think Hoiberg leave Iowa State. Keep in mind while he can recycle repeat being an NBA coach why would you do that compared to staying in your hometown where your kids can grow up with their family all around them and you don't have to move all the time? That is one thing people forget about. Moving costs money. Selling your house, general moving costs, stress, having a 2nd home in your hometown, your kids moving from school to school. Sure if Hoiberg doesn't produce in Ames he will be out, but you know he will have a longer leash there and all he has to do is win enough to get into the Tourney every year and he is fine. Anything after that is gold and the guy already looks like he is got that program on the right direction. Hoiberg can make that program relevant by winning. Iowa State is a pretty decent basketball school. guys have had success there in teh past and Hoiberg played for one of them in Tim Floyd (I am sure Fred is aware how Floyd's career in the NBA went) I don't think there is any way Hoiberg leaves Ames at this point. Maybe 5-10 years from now maybe, but he is gonna stay put for a good while. He is well aware of the recycle repeat cycle at that level and I don't think that would excite him. Look at the guys we are considering SVG and Hollins. Those guys got canned and they had a ton of success.

Either of those guys sound good to me, but Hollins sounds pretty interesting to me. The Grizz took off when he took over and Conely really started playing well at that time as well. Grizz played D under him and we have a PG that could use some mentoring. As it stands right now there are some good coaching options out there for coaches that have had some legit success these are the retread guys these are guys that a pretty good. There are some pretty good retreads out there too. The Wolves are at a good spot at this point if they are looking for a coach (seems likely) and they do have talent that I think a coach would be pretty interested in coaching.

Hollins and Hoiberg on are on my wish list.

I am certain Fred would be great. I think you would have to offer him a long contract to get him here. I would offer him a 10 contract at $30-35M with an opt out for him at 3 years.
